  • has the advanced knowledge required to make the right design choices when tasked with designing an enterprise-sized or large-scale network
  • has advanced knowledge about best practice for configuration of enterprise-sized or large-scale network
  • has advanced knowledge about methods of troubleshooting an enterprise-sized or large-scale network

Skills

Upon successful completion of the course, the student:

  • has the technical experience required to analyse and design an enterprise-sized or large-scale network
  • has hands-on experience in setting up and configuring an enterprise-sized or large- scale network, focusing primarily on routing, switching and services that support networking (e.g. DHCP and DNS)
  • masters different approaches to troubleshooting a network, including traffic analysis

General competence

Upon successful completion of the course, the student:

  • has a broad overview of networking theory and practice and knows how to put theoretical networking knowledge into practice in an actual network
  • is able to analyse and discuss how networks of different types should be designed, configured and maintained.

Forkunnskapskrav

This course features weekly lectures and lab sessions to provide both theoretical content and hands-on experience. The practical lab sessions and lectures that complement each other: lectures give the theoretical background while the lab sessions give the necessary hands-on experience in putting theory into practice. Students are to supplement the lectures and lab sessions with their own reading.

Compulsory assignments are given throughout the semester, which studens complete in groups.

  • pursue further academic research on the Middle East and other regions

Arbeids- og undervisningsformer

There will be lectures and discussions. Students are expected to participate actively in discussions. They are asked to present the topic of their term paper, which is part of the exam, for approval. There will be discussions on selected topics on OsloMet’s digital learning platform.

  1. The multiple-choice test is automatically graded in the electronic assessment programme.
  2. The term paper will be marked by an internal and an external examiner. The external examiner will read a selection of the exam papers and collaborate with the internal examiner in a way that benefits all the students.

Hjelpemidler ved eksamen

Two internal examiners. External examiner is used periodically.

Vurderingsuttrykk

During the second period of practical studies, the student and the practical study supervisor will carry out a midway and final assessment. The lecturer from the university normally participates in the midway assessment and otherwise as necessary. If a student is at risk of failing the course, he/she must be notified at least three weeks before the final practical study period. The final decision on a pass or fail grade is made by the university.
