On successful completion of the course, the student has acquired the following learning outcomes classified as knowledge, skills, and general competence:

Knowledge

The student can

• explain the concept of person-centered nursing for children and adults
• describe normal development from childhood to adulthood
• explain the interaction between physical and mental health across different stages of life
• describe depression, anxiety (mental illness), and substance abuse as possible part of a patient's reaction to illness
• describe the care perspective related to hope and coping
• define what Evidence-Based Practice (EBP) is and understand the rationale behind EBP and shared decision-making
• explain the relationship between scientific theory and research methodology.
• describe various types of studies and characteristics of different issues and scientific articles, and explain how knowledge is placed in the knowledge pyramid

Skills

The student can

• apply knowledge of person-centered nursing to discussions about disease, mental health, and substance abuse issues
• describe methods for collecting and analysing quantitative and qualitative data, including various categorical and continuous measures of association and effect
• develop a relevant search strategy using PICO for a professional/clinical question related to disease, mental health, and substance abuse, and conduct the search for summarised research (from the top of the knowledge pyramid)
• critically evaluate health claims in the media and analyse and interpret the processes by which information and misinformation are distinguished, disseminated, and used in various contexts

General competence

The student can

• reflect on how person-centered nursing, as a working process, can contribute to caring for patients with disease, mental health, and substance abuse issues
• assess research ethical aspects especially related to patients with disease, mental health problems, and substance abuse issues

The following must have been completed and approved in order for a student to take the exam:

• Group assignment, 3-5 students, scope of 1,500 words (+/- 10 %) with a chosen problem that involves the design and implementation of a relevant literature search related to the course's theme, which is based on KBP.

Formålet med arbeidskravet er å gi studentene erfaring med faglig formidling og drøfting av teoretisk og forskningsbasert kunnskap. Følgende arbeidskrav må være godkjent før eksamen kan avlegges:

1.) Obligatorisk deltakelse i undervisning og faglige aktiviteter.

• Obligatorisk frammøte er forstått som oppmøte på minimum 80% i faglige aktiviteter og undervisning. Ved fravær ut over 20% og inntil 40% vil det bli gitt kompensatorisk arbeid som kan inkludere krav til oppmøte. Form og omfang blir bestemt av faglærer. Ved fravær ut over 40% vil studenten bli trukket fra emnet. Fravær dokumenter med for eksempel sykemelding gir ikke fritak for kravet om deltakelse og eventuelt kompensatorisk arbeid.

Formålet med undervisningen er å utvikle studentenes kunnskaper, ferdigheter og generell kompetanse gjennom samhandling med medstudenter knyttet til forelesning, faglige og didaktiske diskusjoner og studentframlegg. Dette formålet kan ikke nås bare ved å lese pensum på egenhånd.

2) Seminarframlegg i gruppe. Arbeidskravet er todelt:

• En faglig fremstilling av et selvstendig valgt tema knyttet til pensum og perspektiver i emnet. Framlegget utformes som en kort forelesning der sentrale innsikter settes inn i en litteraturdidaktisk sammenheng og presenteres for medstudenter. Framlegget skal ha et omfang på 20 minutter.
• Den andre delen av arbeidskravet innebærer å gi en muntlig respons til en annen gruppes framlegg. Responsen skal presenteres rett etter framlegget. Den har en tidsramme på 10 minutter som inkluderer tid til spørsmål rettet til den andre gruppen.

3) Innleveringer i forbindelse med veiledning på fagartikkel (eksamen):

·         Problemstilling til fagartikkelen

·         Notat på 1000 ord +/- 10% før veiledning. Samme målform som fagartikkelen (nynorsk).

Practical training has requirements for attendance 90 %. The student fills in a self-presentation for the start of the practice and self-assessment for the mid- and final assessment. Other compulsory activities included in the assessment of practical training are:

• SF-unit.
• Digital seminar (nutrition).

Assessment in practical training.

The assessment takes its point of departure in given criteria based on learning outcomes for the course, criteria for failing the practical training, criteria for suitability assessment and compulsory activities carried throughout the practical training. Students’ practical training can only be assessed if their attendance is sufficiently high (90%). If the student has failed the practical training, the whole practical training course must be retaken. This includes associated requirements.

Det benyttes en gradert karakterskala fra A til E for bestått og F for ikke bestått eksamen.

All answers are assessed by two examiners.

An external examiner is used regularly, at a minimum of every third completion of the course. When selecting answers for external evaluation, a minimum of 10 percent of the answers shall be included, with no fewer than 5 answers. The external examiner’s assessment of the selected answers shall benefit all students.

• 5 ECTS overlap with SYKK/SYKPPRA20x Nursing Patients with Acute, Critical and Chronic Diseases 1, 20 ECTS.
• SYKK2100 and SYKP2100 are fully overlapping.
