Forkunnskapskrav

The master's thesis builds on all the courses taught in the previous semesters. Students must have passed all their first-year exams before they are entitled to supervision on the work on their master's thesis.

Læringsutbytte

After completing the master's thesis, the student is expected to gain several skills, defined in terms of knowledge, skills and general competence, that go beyond the realm of academic expertise and are highly transferable to various professional contexts.

Knowledge:

The student:

  • has specialised knowledge in the topic of the master's thesis.
  • has in-depth knowledge of theories and methods of relevance to the topic of the master's thesis.
  • has knowledge of new solutions, technologies or processes in the field.

Skills:

The student:

  • is capable of analysing and taking a critical approach to different sources of information and using them to structure and formulate argumentation in the field.
  • is capable of analysing existing theories, methods and standardised solutions and of working independently on practical and theoretical problem-solving.
  • is capable of using relevant methods for research and development work in an independent manner.
  • is capable of carrying out an independent, delimited research or development project under supervision and in accordance with applicable research ethical standards.

General Compentence:

The student:

  • is capable of applying his/her knowledge and skills to new fields for the purpose of carrying out advanced tasks and projects.
  • is capable of communicating extensive independent work and masters the forms of expression used in the field.
  • is capable of communicating on issues, analyses and solutions in the field of structural engineering and building technology, both with specialists and with the general public.
  • is capable of contributing to new ideas and innovation processes.

Arbeids- og undervisningsformer

The following coursework requirements must have been approved in order for the student to take the exam:

  • Coursework: The students are required to, in groups of 2-4 people, give a presentation of an assigned topic. The group will present to another group with a similar topic. You will critically discuss, ask questions, provide feedback, and compare each other’s presentations. The whole session lasts 45 minutes.

The goal of the coursework is for students to familiarize themselves with various topics in the field and gain experience in providing feedback and presenting in front of other people.

All required coursework must be completed and approved by the given deadline in order for the student to take the exam. If the coursework requirements has not been approved, the student will be given the opportunity to submit an improved version one time by the given deadline.

Arbeidskrav og obligatoriske aktiviteter

The exam in the course is a term paper written in groups (min. 2 students per group). The term paper must have a scope of 10 pages. The term paper must be written in English. Font and font size: Arial / Calibri 12 points. Line spacing: 1.5

Students awarded a fail grade are given one opportunity to submit an improved version of the assignment for assessment.

Vurdering og eksamen

All aids are permitted, as long as the rules for source referencing are complied with.

Hjelpemidler ved eksamen

Det benyttes intern og ekstern sensor til sensurering av besvarelsene. Et uttrekk på minst 25 % av besvarelsene sensureres av to sensorer. Karakterene på disse samsensurerte besvarelsene skal danne grunnlag for å fastsette nivå på resten av besvarelsene.

Vurderingsuttrykk

Grade scale A-F.

In accordance with the regulations governing studies and examinations at OsloMet - Oslo Metropolitan University, a student receiving a grade of "F" on a master's thesis is permitted to submit a new or revised master's thesis once. However, it is important to note that submitting a new or revised master's thesis within the same program is not allowed if the original submission received a grade of A-E.

Sensorordning

Eksamen består av to deleksamner som teller 50 % hver.;

  • Gruppeprosjekt 1 (3-5 studenter, programkode) teller 50 %
  • Gruppeprosjekt;2;(3-5 studenter, programkode) teller 50 %

Begge deler må være bestått for å;få bestått i emnet.

Eksamensresultat kan påklages.

Ved stryk får student en annen oppgave som må leveres innen tre uker etter at man har fått strykkarakteren.
