After completing the course, the student is expected to have achieved the following learning outcomes defined in terms of knowledge, skills and competence:

Knowledge:

The student

• has in-depth knowledge of how the most common anaesthesia methods and drugs function and are used
• has in-depth knowledge of the most common complications in connection with acute and/or critical illness, advanced medical treatment and anaesthesia

• has in-depth knowledge of special circumstances relating to different surgical procedures that have a bearing on the choice and application of different anaesthesia forms, techniques and drugs
• has in-depth knowledge of maintaining and restoring vital functions in situations where they are threatened
• has knowledge of the effects of different treatment and examination methods on the nurse anaesthetist¿s working environment

Skills:

The student

• is capable of analysing and taking a critical approach to existing theories and methods in nurse anaesthesia
• is capable of working on practical and theoretical problem-solving relating to the functions and responsibilities of a nurse anaesthetist:
  • is capable, with some assistance, of working in an independent and responsible manner when administering general anaesthesia to otherwise able-bodied patients (ASA 1 and 2) in accordance with applicable guidelines
  • is capable of independently administering and evaluating prescribed anaesthetics and other relevant drugs
  • is capable of independently administering and evaluating the most commonly used pharmacological and non-pharmacological pain relief methods
  • is capable of independently monitoring patients under regional anaesthesia and deep sedation
  • is capable of using the anaesthetic machine and advanced medical equipment commonly used in treatment in a conscious and sound manner
  • is capable of independently identifying acute and problematic situations
  • is capable of ensuring continuity in patient treatment through written and oral documentation

Competence:

The student

• is capable, with some supervision, of analysing ethical issues based on relevant discipline knowledge, research, experience and patient knowledge

• is capable of participating actively in multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary cooperation on patient treatment in accordance with his/her own competence and applicable ethical principles and healthcare legislation
• is capable of contributing to new ideas and innovation processes in nurse anaesthesia

Vurderingen tar utgangspunkt i læringsutbyttet for emnet, studentens konkretisering av læringsutbyttet og den formative vurderingen som er gjort av studenten i løpet avpraksisperioden.

Det er obligatorisk tilstedeværelse i praksisstudier. For at et praksisemne skal kunne vurderes til bestått, må studenten ha vært til stede minimum 90 % av den planlagte tiden i hvert praksisemneemne. Fravær utover 10 % må tas igjen etter avtale med faglærer og praksisstedet. Fravær utover 20 % medfører at praksisemnet vurderes til ikke bestått. Ved ikke bestått skal hele praksisperioden tas om igjen.

The assessment is based on the learning outcomes for the course, the student's specification of the learning outcomes and the formative assessment made of the student during the practical training period. An attendance requirement applies to practical training. In order to pass a practical training course, the student must have attended at least 90% of the planned activities in each course. Students must make up for absence exceeding 10% by agreement with the lecturer and the practical training establishment. If a student¿s absence exceeds 20%, he/she will fail the course. Students who fail a period of practical training must retake the whole training period.

Vurderingen består av en hjemmeeksamen og en muntlig prøve:

• Ti dagers hjemmeeksamen. Besvarelsen skal være ca. 15 sider i font 12 punkt, Times New Roman og 1,5 linjeavstand, og vurderes etter en skala fra A til F, der E er laveste karakter for bestått.
• Vurderingen avsluttes med en muntlig prøve, der karakteren for den skriftlige besvarelsen kan justeres én karakter opp eller ned.

For å kunne fremstille seg til muntlig eksaminasjon må den skriftlige eksamensdelen være bestått. Kandidater som ikke består eller har gyldig fravær ved ordinær eksamen, kan framstille seg til ny/utsatt eksamen.

ANESTPRA20 and MANESPRA20 overlap 100%. Academic content is overlapping with ANESTPRA2 and MANESPRA2.

Work and teaching methods comprise seminars with case-based teaching, skills training and lectures. The students work individually and in groups and present their work for fellow students.
