Innledning

Through work with the literature and the tasks, the student should learn to initiate and perform critical learning processes for adult and young students within the field of digital citizenship. 

Læringsutbytte

The aim of this course is to give the students the tools to participate and critically evaluate in and teach about digital democratic processes in society 

 

A student who has completed his or her qualification has the following learning outcomes defined in terms of knowledge, skills and general competence: 

 

 

Knowledge

  • Has advanced knowledge of the interrelationships between digital citizenship and civic participation 

  • Has advanced knowledge of the role of technology in a digitalised society

  • Can identify and communicate key concepts related to digital citizenship

  • Has the ability to initiate learning processes related to digital citizenship 

  • Can apply knowledge on digital citizenship and civic participation to design and perform relevant teaching and learning processes

The student 

  • Understands how to engage with digital citizenship in a digitalised society 

  • Understands the importance of safety, literacy, and ethics in a digitalized society 

  • Can communicate key concepts in digital citizenship to colleagues and students 

Innhold

The course has three main sub-themes: 

  1. Participation in democratic processes in the digital society 

  1. Critical thinking 

  1. Teaching and learning in the digital democratic society 

Arbeids- og undervisningsformer

The course is designed for students to be physically present, but may also be adapted to students who participate online. Synchronous participation is recommended. No video recordings of the teaching and learning sessions are made. Work methods are student-active and collaborative. The students are expected to take active part in discussions and supposed to read the course literature on their own. The course work requirements will ensure that the student acquires sufficient theoretical knowledge to participate in oral and internet-based discussions during the semester.  The course may be taught in English if English speaking students attend.

See general rules in the programme plan. Students must have the following course- work requirements approved before examination. The course work requirements must be approved before students are eligible for examination.

1) Written paper in groups of 2-4 students, length 1000 words +/- 10 %, covering sub-theme: Participation in democratic processes in the digital society.

2) Written paper in groups of 2-4 students, length 1000 words +/- 10 %, covering sub-theme: Critical Thinking.

3) Written paper in groups of 2-4 students, length 1000 words +/- 10 %, covering sub-theme: Teaching and learning in the digital democratic society

Vurdering og eksamen

The students will be assessed according to an individual home exam. Duration one week. The students must write a paper (4000 words +/- 10%). The paper, based on the course literature, will be the basis of the final assessment.

 

New/postponed exam will be organized in the same way as the ordinary exam. Students who fail the exam may submit a revised version of the paper.

Vurderingsuttrykk

A graded scale from A to E for passed and F for not passed will be used.

Sensorordning

The paper will be evaluated by two internal examiners. An external programme supervisor is used according to OsloMet guidelines to appointing and use of examiners
