Innledning

Through work with the literature, the course work and engaging in different forms of feedback, the student should be able to evaluate, choose and design methods for electronic assessment that are adapted to the group of students and content at hand.

Læringsutbytte

A student who has completed his or her qualification has the following learning outcomes defined in terms of knowledge, skills and general competence:

Knowledge

The student

  • has advanced knowledge about theories on assessment and evaluation, including summative and formative methods for assessment
  • has thorough knowledge on methods for self assessment, peer assessment and teacher-student-assessment
  • has advanced knowledge of the role of technology in assessment

Skills

The student

  • can use and design methods for e-assessment that are adapted to the group of students and content at hand
  • can analyse and deal critically with various sources of information on e-assessment
  • can analyse existing theories and methods to identify problems and challenges within e-assessment

General competence

The student

  • can analyse relevant assessment problems academically
  • can apply the achieved knowledge and skills in the use of e-assessment
  • can communicate experiences, academic findings, and challenges within the field of e-assessment

Innhold

The following work requirements must be approved in order to be qualified for the exam:

  • approved project description mid-January
  • one reflection paper
  • a visual poster which communicates the overall master`s project and content to IPD`s Digital Archive.

Arbeids- og undervisningsformer

The course is totally internet-based. The course may be taught in English if English speaking students attend. Literature will be presented and discussed by students in a chosen digital platform. Students are supposed to take active part in these discussions. Theories from the literature are to be applied in students’ evaluation of technologies and methods of assessment.

Arbeidskrav og obligatoriske aktiviteter

See general rules in the programme plan. The purpose of the first two requirements is for the students to become familiar with the course literature and to practice academic communication. The purpose of the last two requirements is for the students to become familiar with relevant assessment technology and it´s practical and pedagogical use. Students must have the following course requirements approved before examination:

  1. Present at least one paper from the list of literature for the peer students through a chosen medium (i.e. text, audio, video). Length: appr. 750 words +/- 10 % / 10 minutes
  2. Comment on at least two of the other literature presentations. Length: appr. 150 words +/- 10 % / 5 minutes
  3. In a group, make an overview of technology for assessment and its supposed application. Length of group presentation: appr. 1000 words +/- 10 % / 10 minutes
  4. Plan and discuss one assessment session for a given case, related to the course literature. Length of presentation: appr. 750 words +/- 10 % / 10 minutes

These tasks should be documented in a portfolio for each student.

Vurdering og eksamen

The Master`s Project in Product Design is a comprehensive and independent practical and theoretical in-depth piece of work where the student(s) choose a relevant research question to explore. The students should demonstrate insights, analytical thinking and critical reflection towards existing and own design practice and research, theories within the field of study and methods found relevant to apply within the overall frames of the study.

The chosen topic for the master´s project should be explored in a way that acknowledge and cope with its discovered complexity. The work should carry out sustainable and argued design concepts or results which contributes to develop the field of product design.Guildeline for master's theses at the Faculty can be found here: Retningslinjer for masteroppgaver ved Fakultet for teknologi, kunst og design - Student - minside (oslomet.no)

Hjelpemidler ved eksamen

Completion of all courses from the first three semesters of the master's programme.

Vurderingsuttrykk

Knowledge

The student

  • is knowledgeable about the field of product design, its potential and development, nature and place in society
  • has in-depth knowledge of the chosen research topic with a through grounding in the fields of design
  • has in-depth knowledge about and know how to use relevant design methods and scientific methods in an ethical way

Skills

The student

  • can plan and carry out a comprehensive independent and adequate confined research project
  • can facilitate and lead creative activities as part of a design process
  • can collect, analyze and critically reflect and discuss relevant sources of information
  • is capable to justify, argue and reflect on decisions adequately and competently
  • is capable to communicate well-argued and documented findings and results through text, visualizations and products
  • can argue and explain the results societal positions within the chosen field of study

General competence

The student

  • is capable to relate their design process to professional research ethics and sustainable value creation
  • can apply knowledge and skills to new areas
  • is capable to critically reflect upon their process and role in relation to achievement and results
  • is capable to collaborate and involve resource persons in their research

Sensorordning

The most important teaching and learning methods for this course are individual work, group work and individual and group tutoring. Students are encouraged to form colloquia groups and establish collaborations with external resource persons and communities. There will be arranged workshops and/or seminars during the course period.

The master`s project can be carried out individually or through collaboration between 2 or 3 students.
