Information about visa and residence permits for international students going on exchange as a part of their master's degree at OsloMet.

Do I need a visa for the country I will be studying in?

As visa conditions vary depending on your nationality and the residence permit you hold in Norway, it is your responsibility to familiarise yourself with the immigration requirements for the country where you will be going on exchange. Information regarding visas and residence permits can always be found through the relevant Embassy or consulate.

Do I need to notify The Norwegian Directorate of Immigration (UDI) before leaving Norway?

If you hold a temporary residence permit in Norway (student permit/family reunification/skilled worker) you will have to notify The Norwegian Directorate of Immigration (UDI) whenever you leave Norway for longer than six months in a row and reapply for a new permit before returning to Norway. If you stay abroad for less than six months, you do not need to notify UDI, and may continue with your current permit.

If you have questions regarding your residence permit in Norway, please send an e-mail to international@oslomet.no .
