Course history
  • Introduction

    Normally taught in English. Taught in Norwegian if no English-speaking students are taking the course.

    In this course, you will be able to specialise in two key topics: the importance of good parent-child relationships for life-long health and different challenges related to puberty. The objective is to promote health through good relationships, and increase knowledge about puberty and mental health. Screen use in a relational context will also be a main element of the course.

    After completing the course, the student should have the following learning outcomes defined in terms of knowledge, skills and general competence:

    The student

    • can describe key topics related to the importance of good parent-child relationships and life-long health
    • can describe the complexities of puberty and mental health and illness, with a particular focus on individual and group approaches
    • can describe challenges related to screen use in a relational context
    • can describe how it is possible to update your own skills in a chosen subject area and how to contribute to developing professional practice

    • can reflect on current procedures and methods, and take the initiative to engage in dialogue about the implementation of new knowledge and new work methods
    • can reflect on what promotes a good parent-child relationship and the consequences this has for health

  • Teaching and learning methods

    Lectures, group assignments and self-study.

  • Course requirements

    None.

  • Assessment

    Group home exam

    • In groups of up to seven students.
    • The exam period extends throughout the course.
    • Scope of 2,000 words (+/- 10 %).

     

    Resit exam: A student who fails the ordinary exam can submit a reworked version once as a resit.

    The assignment can be given in English or Scandinavian language. The individual group must deliver in the same language.

  • Permitted exam materials and equipment

    All aids are permitted, as long as the rules for source referencing are complied with.

  • Grading scale

    Pass/fail. One overall grade is awarded for the whole group.

  • Examiners

    One external and one internal examiner will assess at least 10% of the exam papers. The remaining papers will be assessed by two internal examiners. The external examiner’s assessment should benefit all the students. 

  • Overlapping courses

    The course overlaps 100% with SYK2800A and SYK2800B.
