Introduction
The main topic in this course is the design, evaluation, and testing of new and emerging user interfaces in international settings. This is developed in accordance with principles for universal accessibility and acquired through many practical exercises coupled with lectures presenting theories relevant to the field. The course will also provide both theoretical principles of Universal Design and hands-on experience on how to design and evaluate ICT systems using these principles.
Course will be held at partner institutions outside of Norway.

Studiearbeidet i emne 1 er hovedsakelig knyttet til utviklingen av grunnleggende ferdigheter, med vekt på muntlig engelsk. Dette inkluderer også kunnskap om vurdering av elevenes muntlige ferdigheter når det gjelder å lytte, tale og samtale. Det er satt fokus på utvikling av studentenes språkbevissthet og evne til å formidle faglig kunnskap i forskjellige typer tekst, både muntlige og digitale, med varierende grad av formalitet. Innsikt i flerspråklighet, tilpasset opplæring, og elevaktive og digitale læringsformer gjennomsyrer arbeidet med hovedtemaene. Studentene får en innføring i nyttige digitale verktøy og benytter dem selv i sitt studiearbeid, både i produksjon av tekst og til refleksjon.
Emne 1 fokuserer på:
- engelsk som verdensspråk og flerspråklighet
- utvikling av elevenes muntlige ferdigheter
- grunnleggende mønstre i fonetikk og grammatikk

Completed Bachelor degree, in addition to the international summer school's general requirements. The requirement has to be met and documented by application deadline.

After completing this course the student should have the following learning outcomes:
Knowledge
On successful completion of this course the student has:
- Advanced knowledge of national and international legislation regarding the inclusion of all groups of users in society in various national and international contexts
- Advanced knowledge of Universal Design and accessibility concepts
- Thorough knowledge on various physical and cognitive disabilities, universally accessible solutions for ICT in cooperation with users
- Knowledge on ensuring access to ICT for everyone in low-resource settings
- Ability to use various methods of knowledge acquisition through research and development work
- Ability to understand and implement Universal Design principles to design and evaluate systems
Skills
On successful completion of this course the student has:
- Ability to critically analyse different usability and accessibility barriers in particular as they apply to business and government in low-, middle-, and high-income countries
- Outstanding proficiency at evaluating and understanding the Universal Design of existing processes and technologies
- Excellent ability to develop universally designed systems in resource-limited environments
- Exceptional proficiency at applying Universal Design principles in practice
- Outstanding experience developing state-of-the-art and cost-effective universally designed ICT solutions
- Excellent ability to implement Universal Design practices within an organization

General Competence On successful completion of this course the student is:
- Proficient at using Universal Design principles in testing and evaluating ICT in particular for persons with low socio-economic status
- An expert in Universal Design policies in practice as they pertain to low-, middle- and high-income countries
- Mastering Universal Design practices to ensure access to ICT for everyone
- Able to design and develop new accessible and universally designed technologies and ICT systems
- Able to evaluate existing ICT systems according to Universal Design standards and principles
- Able to communicate Universal Design concepts in theory and in practical implementation
Teaching and learning methods
The course will take a project-based learning approach. Course participants will work in groups on a project and this project will be evaluated at the end of the course based on group presentation and final report.
This course is a fieldwork course that involves 12 weeks in-person instruction in a country outside of Norway.

Permitted exam materials and equipment
The students will specialise in a research project based on a chosen research question from the field of pharmacy. The students will gain practical experience of research and develop their skills in using a chosen research method. Work on the bachelor’s thesis is centred on the selected research question and analysis and discussion of the student’s own research results, but it must also include an assessment of the student’s results in relation to publications in the relevant field.
Grading scale
The student must have passed all the courses from the first year of study and may lack a maximum of one passed course from the second year.

After completing the course, the student should have the following learning outcomes defined in terms of knowledge, skills and general competence:
Knowledge
The student
- has knowledge of research work in a selected area in the field of pharmacy
- can describe key scientific methods and different research designs
- is familiar with the strengths and weaknesses of the research method applied in his/her own project
- can explain research ethics aspects of his/her own project
Skills
The student
- can apply research-based knowledge to plan and carry out a methodical and academic project in cooperation with others
- can obtain relevant subject matter and integrate it with his/her own knowledge of the field in his/her project work
- can describe, analyse and discuss the research question and results of the project in relation to other published scientific work
- can carry out independent source searches and use references and source references in a consistent and correct manner
- can discuss, assess and argue for his/her own opinions by taking on the role of both opponent and respondent
General competence
The student
- can combine academic knowledge and relevant results from research and development work in a written thesis
- can reflect orally and in writing on academic and scientific issues
