Introduction
The subject of the course is mandatory for all candidates within the specialization Information, Library and Archival studies. The candidates are encouraged to complete the course early their studies.
Required preliminary courses
No prerequisites.
Learning outcomes
Individual written home exam, 3 hours.
The result of the exam can be appealed.
A resit or rescheduled exam may take the form of an oral exam. If oral exams are used for resits and rescheduled exams, the exam results cannot be appealed.
Teaching and learning methods
All aids, not comunication with others.
Course requirements
Participation is mandatory and expected in all lectures and seminars. Only a minor absence can be accepted in certain circumstances after application.
Assessment
The candidate shall write an essay of approximately 2.500 - 3.500 words The essay shall be handed in no later than 2 months after the subject is concluded.
If an essay is considered not passed, the candidate may submit a revised essay once within a specified time.

The essay shall be assessed by the course coordinator.
Admission requirements
Admission Requirements: The course is primarily offered to PhD candidates within the spicialization Information, Library and Archival Studies in the PhD program in Social Sciences. If places are available it will be open to PhD candidates in other PhD programs.
- External applicants use Søknadsweb. (Search for OsloMet, then PhD courses, Faculty of Social Sciences.
- Internal candidates use Studentweb and sign up themselves, or contact the PhD administration.
Required attachments for the application:
- External applicants must submit a summary of about one A4 page with information about their own PhD project and why this topic is considered relevant for their own project. The summary is uploaded to the Søknadsweb.
- Internal candidates send the summary to the PhD administration.
The maximum number of course participants is 15.
