Schedule
  • Introduction

The grades are "pass" or "fail". The requirement for "pass" is that the paper builds on insights from the syllabus and outlines ideas on topics related to classroom research.

  • Learning outcomes

The paper will be assessed by the course coordinator and a member of the academic staff with relevant genre competence.

  • Teaching and learning methods

    Target group

The target group is PhD-candidates at OsloMet, as well as PhD-candidates associated with the Center for Welfare and Labour Research (SVA) and candidates from other universities and university colleges. In addition, non-PhD-candidates may apply for admission to the course if space is available.

    Admission requirements

The admission requirement is a five-year master’s degree (three years + two years) or equivalent qualifications in teacher education, other pedagogical education, educational science, development studies, or other education on equivalent level in subjects relevant for teacher education.

In case of a large number of applicants, PhD-students enrolled in the PhD programme in Educational Sciences for Teacher Education will be prioritized, then students in other PhD-programmes, then academic employees at the Faculty of Teacher Education and International Studies.

Applicants that are not enrolled on the PhD-programme at the Faculty of Education and International Studies at OsloMet must send a summary in English of maximum one A4 sheet with relevant information about their own project / area of interest, containing topic, methodology, theoretical approach, and why this course might be relevant for their project.

  • Course requirements

The required coursework must be completed and awarded a pass grade before the students can take the exam:

    • Documentation of a piece of practical/theoretical work, presented and discussed in a plenary session
    • Completed teaching practice, preferably in groups. Scope: 15 days
    • An interdisciplinary assignment, Inter1200, in collaboration with students taking other programme options
    • An oral presentation relating to teaching practice
    • Minimum 80 per cent participation in compulsory teaching activities
  • Assessment

The examination is a practical, creative project (part exam) carried out within the practice group, accompanied by an individual oral presentation with a reflection note. The oral presentation with reflection note is conducted individually.

The examination consists of two parts:

    1. Practical creative work and project documentation

A completed practical creative work and documentation of the project work. Scope of 2000-4000 words.

The group work is assessed and constitutes 40% of the final grade.

    1. Oral presentation with written reflection note

Oral reflection incorporating subject theory, subject didactics, and practical experiences. The written reflection note forms the basis for the oral presentation (approximately 1000 words).

The individual task is assessed and constitutes 60% of the final grade.

    Important information:

    • Both parts of the examination must be evaluated as E or better for the examination to be considered passed.
    • The examination result for the written part can be appealed.
    • For further information about the examination, refer to the teaching plans.

    Absence - fail

Students who do not take the exam due to valid absence, or who are awarded a fail grade, can register for a resit/rescheduled exam. If a student is taking a resit/rescheduled exam, they can submit a reworked version of the same exam project, or a new exam paper.

  • Permitted exam materials and equipment

All aids are permitted, provided the rules for source referencing are met.

  • Grading scale

    Grade scale A-F.

  • Examiners

One internal examiner and one co-examiner (assesses a selection of the exam assignments). External examiners are used regularly.
