Innledning
The world appears to have become more global and digital, and we have witnessed an increased growth in international expansion of companies of all sizes, i.e., MNEs, SMEs and Born global firms (BGs). Managers of these firms are facing opportunities and challenges related to international expansion and it is vital for future leaders and employees to have an understanding of these issues. The focus in the course encompass firms of all sizes, yet with a particular focus on SMEs and BGs and the particular challenges that need to be addressed by these firms in their internationalization process. It will be used cases throughout the course to illustrate theories and discuss practical problems.
Some of the topics covered in the course is international strategy, choice of entry modes, the internationalization process, market learning and knowledge transfer, institutional differences, the role of networks for internationalization, international entrepreneurship/born global firm and ethical issues.
Language of instruction is English.
Forkunnskapskrav
The course is case-based. Learning approaches include lectures, in-class problem solving, group presentations, and group work.

Arbeids- og undervisningsformer
The following coursework requirements must have been approved in order for the student to take the exam:
- Coursework 1: Four written case submissions, each with a maximum of 1000 words, plus appendixes. The submissions will be written in groups of 2-4 students
- Coursework 2: The group must make one oral presentation. All group members are required to present. The presentation will last 10-20 minutes.
All required coursework must be completed and approved by the given deadline in order for the student to take the exam. If one or more coursework requirements have not been approved, the student will be given one new opportunity to get these approved, within a given deadline.

The following coursework requirements must be approved in order for the student to take the exam:
- Coursework: .
- Completion of two written assignment (up to 6 pages). The coursework will be carried out in groups of four students, comprising different nationalities if possible.
- Oral presentation in class, of a research article, book chapter, or business case (approx. 20 to 25 minutes), carried out in groups of four students comprising comprising different nationalities if possible.
The required coursework must be completed and approved by the given deadline in order for the student to take the exam. If one or more coursework requirements have not been approved, the students will be given one opportunity to submit an improved version within a given deadline.

The following aids are permitted for the written group project:
- All aids are permitted, as long as the rules for source referencing are complied with.
The following aids are permitted for the individual supervised exam:
- Calculator (see regulations for the use of calculators in the programme description)
- One dictionary (either first language-English/English-first language or English/English)

Sensorordning
The exam in the course consists of two parts:
1) A project description, i.e. a plan for a potential research project, for example in preparation for the master's thesis. The project description is individually or in groups of maximum three students. The project description must have a scope of 10-15 pages. The project description counts for 60% of the grade awarded for the course. Font and font size: Arial / Calibri 12 points. Line spacing: 1.5.
2) A supervised exam of 4 hours. The exam counts for 40% of the grade awarded for the course.
Pass grades must be awarded both for the project description and for the written exam in order to pass the course. If a student has to resit the exam, the student can retake each part separately. It is not necessary to take both parts.
