Innledning
Behavior analysis rests on two basic assumptions: a natural science of human behavior is possible, and such a science is desirable. Behavior analysis is the science of regularities in the relations between individual behavior and events in the individual’s environment. An important part of behavior analysis is developing a conceptual framework and a scientific methodology that allow the behavior analyst to precisely describe, correctly predict, and experimentally control behavior, given certain types of information about the history of the individual and the species. This methodology is demonstrably useful in promoting planned desired changes in behavior. The course places the behavior analytic approach in a context of history and philosophy of science, and introduces core topics that are relevant for complex human behavior.
Forkunnskapskrav
Coursework requirements from MALK4000-401 must be approved to participate and submit coursework requirements in MALK4000-403
Læringsutbytte
On successful completion of the course, the student has the following learning outcomes classified as knowledge:
Knowledge
The student can
- discuss arguments pro et con a natural scientific approach to understanding and influencing human behavior, and describe and discuss a scientific position where the goals are description, prediction and Control
- place behavior analysis in its historical context
- describe and discuss how behavior analysis, evolutionary biology and social anthropology relate to each other
- describe how the radical behaviorist position relates to important philosophies of natural science, including positivism, empiricism and contextualism
- describe and discuss selection as an explanatory model at the levels of phylogenesis, ontogenesis and culture
- define the concept of category error, and discuss how this logical fallacy can be problematic in the explanation of behavior
- describe and discuss a functional analysis of verbal behavior
- describe and discuss methodological and radical behaviorism, and the distinctions between them
Arbeids- og undervisningsformer
Teaching and learning methods include lectures, exercises, discussion of literature. The lectures will partly be based on interteaching sequences using readings from the curriculum. Students read selected texts in advance for each day of class, and everyone is expected to participate in class through questions and through joining in discussion. Texts used for interteaching are announced in the digital learning platform of the university.
Arbeidskrav og obligatoriske aktiviteter
The following required coursework must be approved before the student can take the exam:
- 4 individual written assignments, each with maximum 6000 keystrokes
Vurdering og eksamen
The course consists of clinical training relating to the course MAJO4000 Midwifery Care during Childbirth and Starting a Family 1. Students will develop their clinical skills and ability to make clinical assessments in connection with midwifery practice in labour and delivery/maternity. Particular emphasis is placed on the students' further development of theory, reflection and clinical assessment as a basis for caring for women/families and children during the birth process and the post-partum period.
Clinical training in the course takes place over a period of 13 weeks, including the introduction and follow-up work. The content of the course will vary in line with the activities at the institution where the clinical training takes place, and will therefore offer varied arenas for clinical training in terms of complexity. The course is taught over a twenty-week period at in parallel to MAJOPRA2. This is adapted to each clinical training institution.
Hjelpemidler ved eksamen
The required coursework for the courses MAJO4000 Midwifery Care during Childbirth and Starting a Family 1 and MAJO4100 Women's Health - Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights must have been approved.
Vurderingsuttrykk
After completing the course, the student is expected to have achieved the following learning outcomes defined in terms of knowledge, skills and competence:
Knowledge
The student has:
- advanced knowledge about anatomy, physiology and pathophysiology within the midwife's area of expertise during childbirth and the post-partum period
- in-depth knowledge about childbirth, the post-partum period and starting a family as psychosocial processes
- advanced knowledge about pain during labour and pain relief methods
- advanced knowledge about breastfeeding and mother and baby nutrition during the perinatal period
Skills
The student is capable of:
- using relevant procedures/methods in simulated situations
- carrying out practical and theoretical midwifery under supervision in accordance with professional and ethical guidelines
- analysing the birth process, facilitating and promoting normal childbirth, and reacting to situations that deviate from the norm
- using medical technology equipment
- using relevant pain relief methods under supervision and taking an analytical approach to different pain relief methods
- applying knowledge about breastfeeding and nutrition in a counselling situation
- taking a critical approach to different sources of information and using them to formulate argumentation in the field
- applying the steps of evidence-based practice
Competence
The student is capable of:
- analysing links between physical, psychosocial and cultural aspects and developments in pregnancy, childbirth and starting a family
- analysing and taking a critical approach to his/her own midwifery competence and competence development
- applying acquired knowledge and skills in intrapartum and postnatal care and carrying out duties in a manner that signals respect and understanding of cultural diversity
- communicating with users, fellow students and colleagues at the institution where the clinical training takes place about issues relating to childbirth, the post-partum period and starting a family
Sensorordning
The work and teaching methods are simulator training in the skills laboratory and user-oriented clinical training, studying relevant specialist and research literature individually and in study groups, and individual regularly written logs describing students' progress and focus areas for further learning.
Supervision
Students will be supervised by a team consisting of a university supervisor and a midwife from the clinical field (clinical supervisor). The clinical supervisor is responsible for facilitating and supervising learning situations in the professional field. It is the students' responsibility to actively seek supervision and be prepared for all meetings with supervisors and assessment interviews. The clinical supervisor will take part in the expectation clarification meeting, and the midway and final assessments. The university supervisor will take part in the expectation clarification meeting and the midway assessment. The university supervisor will take part in the final assessment if necessary. The expectation clarification meeting can be conducted individually or in groups. The university supervisor will also initiate up to two group supervision sessions, where students can analyse and reflect on concrete situations from their clinical training. The students must prepare for the group supervision in cooperation with the university supervisor. Group supervision is adapted to each institution where clinical training takes place.
