Programme description
  • Introduction

    Grading is based on the mid-term assignment and a written exam at the end of the term. The assignment counts 25% towards the final grade and the four-hour, written exam counts 75%.

    No formal grading decisions are made until after the final exam and only the final grade can be challenged.

  • Learning outcomes

    After completing the course, the student is expected to have achieved the following learning outcomes defined in terms of knowledge, skills and competence:

    Knowledge

    The student has

    • in-depth knowledge about qualitative research design
    • in-depth knowledge about the use of qualitative approaches used in the collection, analysis and dissemination of empirical material

    Skills

    The student is capable of

    • formulating research questions that can be answered using qualitative methods
    • developing a qualitative research design
    • choosing and justifying relevant research methods
    • analysing, interpreting and disseminating empirical material using a qualitative method

    Competence

    The student is capable of

    • analysing relevant issues using qualitative methods
    • applying theoretical knowledge and practical skills to carry out qualitative projects
    • analysing, interpreting and disseminating qualitative studies and conclusions
  • Teaching and learning methods

    The course instructor will grade the assignment. Whereas an external examiner and the course instructor (internal examiner) will decide the grade for the written exam. The overall/final grade of the course will be based on an weighted average of the assignment and the written exam.

  • Assessment

    The course primarily covers topics that do not build on elective courses. Thus required courses from first two years suffice although some concepts from elective courses, Corporate Finance (Foretaksfinans) and International Economics in particular, are useful.

  • Grading scale

    Grade scale A-F.

  • Examiners

    An external examiner takes part in preparing the exam questions and assessment criteria and assesses a minimum of 20% of the papers together with an internal examiner. Two internal examiners assess the remaining students. The external examiner's assessment shall benefit all students.
