Innledning
The course deals with selected topics related to the durability and service life of important infrastructures such as bridges, quays and offshore installations with service life requirements of more than 50 years. Degradation and damage caused by corrosion is an important topic in the course, but other relevant degradation mechanisms are also addressed. The course provides in-depth studies in topics such as:
- transport and degradation mechanisms for reinforced concrete
- service life calculations and service life design of concrete structures
- condition assessments, residual service life and service life extension of existing concrete structures.

Arbeids- og undervisningsformer
The students must have attended at least three of four seminars and have individual reflection notes approved (approx. 5-7 pages per note) linked to the seminars they have attended. Students who fail to meet the coursework requirements can be given up to one opportunity to resubmit reflection notes before the exam.
Arbeidskrav og obligatoriske aktiviteter
Portfolio assessment subject to the following requirements:
1) Project report prepared in groups of 2-3 students, approx. 50-75 pages, with oral presentation, weighted approx. 70 %. Individual project reports can be accepted in exceptional cases in agreement with the course coordinator.
2) Individual in-depth report, approx. 10-15 pages, with oral presentation, weighted approx. 30 %.
Each student's work will be assessed together as a portfolio with one individual grade at the end of the semester, but the two parts that make up the portfolio must be assessed as 'pass' in order for the student to pass the course. The weights are approximate and included here to provide additional information to the students on how their work is assessed. Detailed guidelines for the project assignments will be published in Canvas.
The overall assessment cannot be appealed. Formal errors can be appealed. If a student fails the portfolio assessment, he/she is given one opportunity to resubmit the Portfolio.
Vurdering og eksamen
All aids are permitted.
Hjelpemidler ved eksamen
A grade scale with grades from A to E for pass (with A being the highest grade and E being the lowest pass grade) and F for fail is used in connection with the final assessment.
Vurderingsuttrykk
Two internal examiners. External examiners are used regularly.
