Introduction
This course promotes practical and theoretical knowledge about art and design in an educational context. A diversity of techniques and materials are introduced and explored through workshops and lectures. The course consists of four modules: Drawing & Painting, Architecture and the Built Environment, Innovation & Entrepreneurship, and Development Project/Exam Project.
Required preliminary courses
Completed and passed first and second year of Specialised Teacher Training in Art and Design. Other equivalent education at college or university level may also be accepted.

Knowledge:
The student
- has broad knowledge about materials, tools and techniques relevant to the subject areas
- has knowledge about contemporary art, design and architecture and can use this as a reference and inspiration in his/her own creative work
- has knowledge about different work methods within creative work, such as intuitive and analytical processes, idea development, problem-solving and entrepreneurship
- has knowledge about different tools and materials and of issues concerning production, health, the environment and Security
- has knowledge about innovation and research and development work relevant to the subject areas
- has knowledge about sustainable development in relation to art, design and architecture
Skills:
The student
- is capable of reflecting on, discussing and applying subject specific knowledge on theoretical and practical aesthetical issues
- is capable of exploring and evaluating the interplay between materials, tools and techniques, both in relation to tradition and innovation
- is capable of defining and implementing a development project related to the subject areas
- is capable of using digital media to acquire knowledge and as a tool for creative and explorative work
- is capable of using and reflecting on subject specific theory in relation to the subject areas and for teaching
General competence:
The student
- is capable of inspiring, motivating and supervising others through creative and explorative processes
- is capable of explaining relevant methods and approaches for acquiring knowledge within the subject area
- is capable of identifying and using relevant sources such as literature, artwork and artefacts and referring to these in accordance with the rules for correct use of referencing

Content
The course comprises the following modules:
- Drawing & Painting - theory and practice. This module focuses on different two-dimensional expressions within the fields of drawing, painting, colour and composition, through theory and practice.
- Architecture and the Built Environment. This module aims to provide practical and theoretical knowledge about the built environment in an educational and societal perspective.
- Innovation & Entrepreneurship. This module covers the pedagogical methods that stimulate creativity and innovative thinking, and the development of ideas in a market-related context.
- Development Project/Exam Project. In this module, the student is expected to specialise in a chosen topic. The student must develop a specific research question as a starting point for an individual project. The research question and a progress schedule must be approved by a supervisor.
Teaching and learning methods
The work methods vary between studio work, workshops, lectures, self-study and group work. Different teaching methods for supervision and assessment are used throughout the course, and creative and explorative work is emphasised.
The different modules must be regarded as a whole. Not all aspects relating to the different modules will necessarily be covered at lectures and workshops. The student is expected to study the course literature independently, and attend organised teaching and workshops.
Course requirements
The intention of the coursework requirements is to document the knowledge and skills acquired by the student from the different modules. Coursework assignments can be solved individually or in groups (2-3 students per group).
Drawing & Painting - theory and practice.

Architecture and the Built Environment

Innovation & Entrepreneurship
- documentation of studio work: sketches, drawing, paintings, models.
- a written assignment: 2 pages
- an oral presentation (10 min)
The coursework requirements will be assessed as approved/not approved. The coursework is assessed by the course teachers. If the coursework requirements are not approved, the student will be given one attempt to amend and improve his/her work. All coursework requirements must be approved before the student can take the exam.
Assessment
The Development Project/Exam Project is carried out individually. The student is expected to specialise in a topic of his/her choice. The project is expected to be a thorough investigation of the chosen subject area. All aids are permitted for the assessment.
The Development Project must include:
- a research question and progress schedule
- systematic documentation of the work process (for example: sketches, drawings, paintings, material samples, models)
- a final product
- reflection notes (1000-1200 words)
An overall grade is awarded for the project. The grade can be appealed.

Grading scale
The Development Project/Exam Project is assessed according to the grading system A-F. The grade F is awarded if the exam is not approved.
Examiners
The Development Project/ Exam Project is assessed by two internal examiners. External examiners are used regularly.

Target group
International exchange students. Between three and eight students per year.
Admission requirements
Completed and passed first and second year of Specialised Teacher Training in Art and Design. Other equivalent education at college or university level may also be accepted. Students attending a teacher training programme will be prioritised.
