Course history

Introduction

The course describe the analysis and processing of signals in the frequency domain and analysis of systems for signal processing. Images are two-dimensional signals. The course also include the acquisition of image data, reconstruction of images and basic image processing of images for medical diagnostics.

Recommended preliminary courses

All aids are permitted, as long as the rules for source referencing are complied with.

Required preliminary courses

No requirements over and above the admission requirements.

Learning outcomes

After finishing this course the student should have the following outcome:

Knowledge:

Understand the connection between the impulse response and frequency response

Understand that images are 2D signals and can be analysed accordingly

Understand the connection between resolution, impulse response, point spread function and frequency response.

Know how to describe wave propagation, reflection, refraction and attenuation of waves

Understand how an ultrasound image is formed and how the pulses are transmitted and recorded.

Understand how x-rays are generated and how an X-ray image is formed.

Understand how tomographic data are recorded and how CT-images are reconstructed.

Understand the physical principals of magnetic resonance and how images are formed.

Skills

Can describe and analyse signals with the use of the Fourier transform.

Be able to frequency analyse signals and design;optimal processing

Can digitize signals by sampling and AD-conversion.

Can explain the difference between diagnostic and technical image quality.

Understand how images are reconstructed fro measured data.

Can use an ultrasound scanner and chose optimal settings.

General competence:

Be able to process a measured signal to;optimize information content.

Be able to evaluate technical quality of an image in order to optimize diagnostic quality

Content

Grade scale A-F.

Teaching and learning methods

ENGC6110 Engelsk 1, trinn 1-7, emne 1.;Individuell skriftlig hjemmeeksamen.;

Avsluttende vurdering i emnet gjennomføres i høstsemesteret.

Eksamen er en individuell skriftlig hjemmeeksamen. Eksamensspråket er engelsk. Hjemmeeksamen går over én uke (syv dager). Oppgavens omfang skal være om lag 2000 ord.

Ny/utsatt eksamen

Course requirements

Language of instruction: Norwegian

This course provides knowledge about the life situation of older adults living at home seen from an individual, social and cultural perspective and framework. Particular emphasis is placed on problems related to disadvantaged and vulnerable groups of older adults. Different theoretical and analytical perspectives in gerontology and geriatrics are drawn in to highlight how older adults´ life situation affects their experiences, activity and participation. The course has a focus on older adults as active players in their own everyday lives, and how they understand and experience their own situation.

Permitted exam materials and equipment

After completing the course, the student should have the following learning outcomes defined in terms of knowledge, skills and general competence:;

Knowledge

The student

  • can critically analyse and assess physiotherapy theories for older adults regardless of their ethnicity
  • can analyse and assess movement, function, participation and health-related quality of life related to physiotherapy for the older adult
  • can interpret and analyse theories about motor control and learning in the older adults

;Skills

The student

  • can apply relevant theories in the analysis of movement and function in older adults
  • can apply and critically reflect on the use of standardised assessment instruments in clinical practice
  • can analyse and discuss the results of assessments of older adults
  • can apply research-based knowledge, experience-based knowledge including older adults’ knowledge and preferences

;General competence ;

The student

  • can critically reflect on the knowledge basis for physiotherapy for the older adults
  • can communicate up-to-date disciplinary knowledge to collaborative partners and the population at large
  • can identify and handle ethical dilemmas related to assessment and measures in physiotherapy

Grading scale

The course will use varied, student-active work methods. Work and teaching methods include lectures, seminars, self-study assignments and supervision. Teaching is session-based; with two sessions lasting five days each, one of which is dedicated to self-study and supervision.
