BAPD1110 Design History and Design Theory Course description

Emnet skal utdype den norske og den internasjonale designhistorien fra år ca. 1850 til i dag. Teoretiske perspektiver på design og vitenskapsteori er også sentrale fagområder innenfor dette emnet. I tillegg vil studenten få praktisk undervisning i skriveprosess, akademisk skriving og dokumentasjon.

After completing the course, the student is expected to have achieved the following learning outcomes defined in terms of knowledge, skills and competence:

Knowledge

The student

• is aware of the role and importance of design and technology in social development how they have varied historically and in the present age.
• knows about innovation and future opportunities in the significance of design in technology in culture and society.
• is aware of his/her own professional role and understands it in relation to both a contemporary and a historical social context

Skills

The student

• is capable of developing new perspectives and using analysis and critical reflection on the basis of his/her own understanding of the importance and role of design for a sustainable society
• is capable of critically reflecting on future opportunities for the role and importance of design in society and to individuals
• is capable of putting his/her own professional role in perspective and of using analysis in projects to identify opportunities and limitations to his/her own professional role
• masters written and oral discussion and argumentation on the basis of his/her own understanding of the importance and role of design to social development and individuals

Competence

The student is capable of

• seeing him/herself and his/her own work in a human and global context
• exchanging points of view and experience with others with backgrounds in the field and in this way contribute to developing good practice
• reflecting on his/her own development in the learning process and adjusting it under supervision

The following coursework is compulsory and must be approved before the student can take the exam:

Active participation in groups of 5-7 students to prepare two 10-minute oral presentations for the class.

Emnet dekker praktiske og teoretiske kunnskaper knyttet til de enkelte stadiene i vitenskapelig kommunikasjon. I kurset inngår:

• modeller for vitenskapelig kommunikasjon
• åpen vitenskap og åpne data
• publiseringsmønstre i ulike vitenskapelig disipliner
• bibliometriske metoder og mål
• finansieringsmodeller for vitenskapelig publisering
• open access-publisering og institusjonelle arkiv

Kunnskaper

Studenten

• kjenner strukturen i vitenskapelig kommunikasjon og publisering, på nasjonalt og internasjonalt nivå samt hvordan denne preges av disiplinære forskjeller
• har avansert kunnskap om de politiske og praktiske sidene ved åpne data, open access og åpen vitenskap
• har gode kunnskaper om bibliometriske metoder og mål for samlingsutvikling, kartlegging av forskningsaktivitet og forskningsevaluering

Ferdigheter

Studenten

• kan rådgi forskere i open access-publiseringsløsninger
• kan utrede og anbefale metadataløsninger for forskningsdata
• kan jobbe med forvaltning av forskningsdata
• kan utføre enkle bibliometriske analyser

Emnet organiseres som en ukentlig seminarserie. Studentene kan følge forelesningene både på campus og nett.
