Innledning
This course covers topics that reflect the breadth and multidisciplinary nature of biomedical engineering. Material for the course is created in cooperation with researchers, medical professionals and representatives from the healthcare industry. One of the objectives is to expose students to a variety of emerging technologies that play an important role in the paradigm shift towards preventive, personalized and precision medicine. The core of the course is a practical project where the students gain hands-on experience in designing, building and testing biomedical devices.

A student who has completed this course should have the following learning outcomes:
Knowledge:
On successful completion of this course the student has:
- advanced understanding of the concepts and methods used in biomedical systems for health monitoring, including non-invasive techniques, rehabilitation and personalized medicine.
- knowledge of the practical aspects of designing, building and testing biomedical devices
Skills:
On successful completion of this course the student can:
- apply theoretical knowledge into practical settings.
- design, implement or advance the chosen biomedical device.
- analyze a practical challenge in the view of the theoretical and research-based methodologies.
General competence:
On successful completion of this course the student can:
- analyse, present and debate specific research subjects in light of the theoretical and practical approaches.
- explain the subject to various audiences.

Lectures, practical work (group project), site visits, labs and experiments.

Vurdering og eksamen
The exam has the following 3 parts:
Part 1: Group project which includes demonstration of prototype and project report (4-6 pages), counts 60% of the total grade
Part 2: Individual presentation (5-10mins) regarding contribution in the group project, counts 20% of the total grade. This exam result cant be appealed.
Part 3: One hour individual home written exam, counts 20% of the total grade.
Part 1 and 3 can be appealed.
New/postponed exam
In case of failed exam or legal absence, the student may apply for a new or postponed exam. New or postponed exams are offered within a reasonable time span following the regular exam. The student is responsible for registering for a new/postponed exam within the time limits set by OsloMet. The Regulations for new or postponed examinations are available in Regulations relating to studies and examinations at OsloMet.
In the event of a postponed examination in this course the exam may be held as an oral exam. Oral exams cannot be appealed.
