Innledning

The course focuses on the application of artificial intelligence in user interfaces, techniques, technologies and ethical consequences.

Anbefalte forkunnskaper

Students should have completed introductory courses at least at bachelor level in both human computer interaction/interaction design and artificial intelligence/intelligent systems.

Forkunnskapskrav

No formal requirements over and above the admission requirements.

Læringsutbytte

A student who has completed this course should have the following learning outcomes defined in terms of knowledge, skills and general competence:

Knowledge

On successful completion of this course the student

  • has specialized knowledge of artificial intelligence and machine learning techniques and technologies, and how they can be applied in intelligent user interfaces
  • has specialized knowledge practical application areas of intelligent user interfaces
  • has specialized knowledge about how intelligence and automation in user interfaces affects users

Skills

On successful completion of this course the student

  • can assess the need for and feasibility of applying artificial intelligence and machine learning to a given user interface problem
  • can identify suitable artificial intelligence or machine learning techniques and technologies for a given user interface problem
  • can build rapid prototypes of intelligent user interfaces
  • can evaluate intelligent user interfaces

General competence

On successful completion of this course the student

  • can analyse ethical aspects of automatic collection, storage, automatic interpretation and use of person-related measurements
  • can analyse opportunities and limitations associated with artificial intelligence and machine learning for given problems

Arbeids- og undervisningsformer

This course is organized as a series of weekly seminars where students present selected articles covering recent research in intelligent user interfaces, and when relevant students provide primers on corresponding user interface issues, artificial intelligence techniques and relevant research methods. The presentation of articles are followed by in-class discussions and practical activities.

Arbeidskrav og obligatoriske aktiviteter

Two individual oral presentation of research article (45 minutes with questions). One presentation is on an assigned article and the second articles is selected by the student.

Vurdering og eksamen

Project report, individual or in groups (3000-4000 words).

Each group may consist of up to three candidates. The exam can be appealed.

New/postponed exam

In case of failed exam or legal absence, the student may apply for a new or postponed exam. New or postponed exams are offered within a reasonable time span following the regular exam. The student is responsible for applying for a new/postponed exam within the time limits set by OsloMet. The Regulations for new or postponed examinations are available in Regulations relating to studies and examinations at OsloMet.

Hjelpemidler ved eksamen

All aids.

Vurderingsuttrykk

For the final assessment a grading scale from A to E is used, where A denotes the highest and E the lowest pass grade, and F denotes a fail.

Sensorordning

Two internal examiners. External examiner is used periodically.
