Language requirements
The language skills needed when you are going on an exchange depend on where you are going. You must document that you are proficient in the language of tuition in the country you are going to.

How do I find out what language skills are required?
The skill level and what documentation is required varies between the different partner institutions. Information about the specific requirements that apply to the instituiton you are going to, is available on the OsloMet webpage about the institution. You can also contact the international coordinator for your study programme.

Do I need to take a language test?
- If you are going on an exchange through Erasmus+ you can take a language test in Online Language Support (OLS) to check your language skills. At some institutions the test is mandatory.
- Many universities in English-speaking countries accept a grade 4 or better in English from Norwegian upper secondary school instead of test scores. Students with lower grades are usually required to take a TOEFL or IELTS test (ansa.no). Some universities demand a language test regardless of your grade.
- In Spanish-speaking countries outside Europe, most universities who require a test will accept the DELE test (ansa.no).
- If you are applying for exchange at an institution that requires a TOEFL, IELTS or DELE test, we recommend registering for the test at the earliest opportunity. The waiting time for taking the test and getting your score may be long. If you wait too long, you may miss the institution’s own application deadlines.
