Explanation for or appeal against a grade
-
How do I request an explanation for my grade?
Students can request an explanation for their grade in Studentweb.
If you want to request an explanation for your grade in connection with oral examinations or assessment of practical skills, you will have to contact the examiner or lecturer immediately after the grade is announced.
-
Deadlines for an explanation
In connection with written examinations, a request for an explanation must be submitted within one week from when the grade was announced. Grades are announced in Studentweb three weeks after your exam.
When will I receive the explanation?
You will receive the explanation within two weeks after you have submitted your request. The explanation shall state the general principles on which the assessment was based and explain the assessment of your performance.
Explanations may be given orally or in writing at the examiner’s discretion.
-
Appeal a grade
Consider carefully whether or not you want to submit an appeal. Please note that you cannot appeal against the new grade and that this grade will be the final grade of the examination in question. The new grade may be higher, lower or the same as the original grade.
Oral and practical examinations
You may not appeal against the determination of grades awarded in connection with an oral or practical examination.
Group examination
If the whole group wants to appeal, they may submit one form but it is important that the form includes the names, student ID numbers and signatures of all the appellants. The result of an appeal will only have consequences for the candidates who have submitted the appeal. This implies that not all members of a group have to submit an appeal.
What happens after I have submitted an appeal?
When an appeal has been submitted, there will be a new assessment of your answer paper. The new assessment will be carried out by at least two new examiners, whereof at least one is an external examiner. The examiners will not receive the original examination result.
The new grade may be higher, lower or the same as the original grade. You may not appeal against the new grade.
You have the right to withdraw your appeal until the case is settled.
