Forkunnskapskrav

Admission to the programme.

Læringsutbytte

On completion of the EPS, students should have the learning outcomes, defined as knowledge, skills, and general competence.

Knowledge

The student knows:

  • how to use knowledge in science and technology to solve engineering problems, and methods for analyzing and verifying their results

  • how to use milestones and project management tools and methodologies when planning and implement a project

  • how to effectively manage tasks when working in groups.

Skills

The student can:

  • collaborate effectively with individuals with different nationalities, backgrounds and competencies

  • effectively identify problems and offer feasible technical solutions

  • plan, write and complete a collaborative report to a high technical standard

  • apply their existing technical knowledge to new, related areas of engineering.

General Competence

The student can:

  • plan and execute a project

  • cooperate and get results in an international and multidisciplinary group

  • reflect on the development of their knowledge and compentancies and their ability to work in international, multidisciplinary groups

  • communicate effectively in both written and oral English.

Innhold

An interdisciplinary group project designed to develop students' project management skills, co-operation, communication skills, individual creativity and ability to apply their knowledge and competencies in different contexts.

Arbeids- og undervisningsformer

EPS project groups are comprised of 3-5 students.

Projects can be within the Faculty of Technology, Art and Design and/or in collaboration with external companies, partners and stakeholders.

An academic supervisor at HiOA will be assigned to each project group. The internal and/or external supervisor meets regularly with the project group and is responsible for the day-to-day running of the project. The main contribution of the supervisor is to help the students understand the content of their project and ensure that they are making progress. External companies, partners and stakeholders are consulted when necessary and according to the needs and scope of the individual project.

In addition to the content of the project report and oral (the product), great attention will be paid to the students- abilities to plan, delegate, communicate and co-operate as responsible team members towards a common objective (the process).

Arbeidskrav og obligatoriske aktiviteter

None.

Vurdering og eksamen

The Main Project is a group portfolio exam.

The portfolio assessment for the EPS 3900 project (20 ECTS) consists of:

  • A written project report (between 5000-10000 words)

  • An oral presentation and discussion (20 + 10 minutes)

The portfolio examination cannot be appealed.

Hjelpemidler ved eksamen

All forms of support materials are permitted.

Vurderingsuttrykk

The portfolio exam is assessed as a whole and graded A-F.

A grading scale from A to E is used, where A denotes the highest grade, E denotes the lowest, and F denotes a fail. Grades are assigned according to the Assessment Criteria for Bachelor-s Theses in Engineering set by the Norwegian Association for Higher Education Institutions.

All members of the group receive the same grade. Under exceptional circumstances, individual grades can be assigned at the discretion of the EPS teaching team and the Head of the EPS.

Sensorordning

Two examiners, one internal and one external.

The project supervisor(s) and the external examiner assess the portfolio, consisting of the written report and the oral presentation, as a whole.

Opptakskrav

The program is mainly offered to third year engineering students, but students from other disciplines may apply. The EPS is also an alternative to writing the regular Final Thesis for third year BA-students at the Faculty of Technology, Art and Design.

Candidates must have a qualification equivalent to two years of relevant college education. Proficiency in English is required.
