  • Accessibility statement for Microsoft Authenticator

Status of the Microsoft Authenticator app as of 10.06.2021

Universal design tests have been performed on the content available in the Microsoft Authenticator app. The tests are performed using automated tools and manual testing, in accordance with the requirements of WCAG 2.0 and 2.1.

The test was performed on a 5th generation iPad with iPad OS 14.7 and a Samsung S21 Ultra with Android 11 Microsoft Authenticator. During the test, the following test tools were used: WAVE, WCAG - Contrast checker and built-in screen reader in iPad OS and Android.

    Known deviations

The following discrepancies were discovered during testing of the Microsoft Authenticator app:

    Screen reader

A possible problem has been identified with the use of a built-in screen reader on mobile devices such as iPhone, iPad and Android. The screen reader reads out the code that is valid when starting the app. Since the code has a limited validity, before it is replaced by a new one, the screen reader reads out an outdated code. Work is being done to solve this.

    Contrast

It has been revealed that small white text on a blue background violates the contrast requirement (4,5:1) and therefore does not have sufficient contrast (AA) - WCAG 2.0: 1.4.3.

    Language

When testing Microsoft Authenticator in the Google Chrome browser, it was discovered that the app lacks a language attribute (NO/EN) which will mean that when reading the content of the page, the content can be difficult to decipher. (A) - WCAG: 3.1.1.

    We care about accessibility!

OsloMet takes universal design seriously. Through regular testing, we detect and correct deviations, so that the user experience is the best it possibly can be.

How can you report lacking accessibility?

Is something not working properly, or is the language difficult to understand? Do you as a user experience something that prevents you from obtaining the information you are looking for? Contact IT service desk.

  • FAQ

Is my phone compatible with Microsoft Authenticator?

Microsoft Authenticator can be downloaded and installed on most smartphones or tablets with Android or iOS operating system.

Authenticator is not compatible with older Windows smartphones.

    See also FAQ at Microsoft.com

    What is two-factor authentication?

    • Two-factor authentication means that you must use several factors in addition to your regular password when logging in to a service or device. This ensures that you are the only person who can access your account, even if someone else knows your password.

    • In practice, two-factor authentication works so that you have two steps when logging in. First you authenticate with a regular password from OsloMet, then with an additional authentication via an app. This protection gives IT accounts an extra layer of protection against fraud and other misuse.

    When is two-factor authentication required?

I have a new phone, what do I do?

How often is two-factor authentication needed?

    • Two-factor authentication will be mandatory at first login to Microsoft 365 on new IT equipment and always when using web browsers to access Microsoft systems.

    • In installed Microsoft software (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint etc.) re-authentication using 2FA will be required after 90 days.

    • In order to use Microsoft Remote Desktop (RDP) for access to kontor.oslomet.no, patient journals etc. 2FA is mandatory on every login.

Kan jeg bruke andre løsninger enn Microsoft Authenticator?

It's possible to use other TOTP solutions. Students having questions about alternative methods for two-factor authentication can contact itservicedesk@oslomet.no.
