Required preliminary courses

After completing the course, the student has the following learning outcomes defined in terms of knowledge, skills and general competence:

Knowledge

The student:

  • has in-depth knowledge of the basis for and the theory behind the design of non-tensioned reinforced structural elements for moment, shear and axial force as well as combinations of these.
  • knows the principles and methods for design of prestressed reinforced concrete structures
  • knows the principles of building with concrete elements

Skills

The student can:

  • design construction elements in non-tensioned reinforced concrete according to NS-EN 1992.
  • explain the principles of prestressed concrete
  • calculate load distribution in slabs and nodes in precast concrete buildings according to NS-EN 1992 1-1 and "Betongelementboken"
  • use software to model, analyse and design constructions in non-tensioned reinforced concrete

General competence

The student:

  • can design simple constructions and buildings in non-tensioned reinforced concrete
  • can make independent assessments of alternative technical solutions
  • has the ability to make critical assessments of results from calculation programs

Learning outcomes

Lectures, supervision of assigned exercises, laboratory work and group projects

Content

BYTS2100 Byggematerialer og betongdimensjonering: 5 STP

BYTS2500 Betongkonstruksjoner: 5 STP

Teaching and learning methods

The following coursework is compulsory and must be approved before the student can sit the exam:

  • 4 of 5 individual exercises
  • participation in introduction course in software (2 hours)

Course requirements

Portfolio-exam consisting of two parts:

  1. Project report from group assignment (10 - 20 pages), counts about 30% of grade
  2. Individual written test under supervision, 3 hours, counts about 70% of the grade

The two exam parts will be taken into consideration together. Both parts must be passed (grade E or better) to pass the course.

Examination results can be appealed.

In the event of a new or postponed exam, an oral exam can be used. If an oral exam is used for a new or postponed exam, the exam result cannot be appealed.

Assessment

All printed and written aids as well as approved calculator from list. If the calculator has the option of storing in the internal memory, the memory must be deleted before the exam. Samples can be made.

Grade scale A-F.

Two internal examiners. External examiners are used regularly.
