Schedule
  • Introduction

    The course provides knowledge of fundamental principles and simple calculations of common unit operations and apparatus in chemical engineering. Topics include fluid mechanics and hydrodynamics with process equipment such as flow meters, valves, pumps and compressors, heat transfer with process equipment such as multi tube and plate heat exchangers, and mass and energy transfer in chemical engineering unit operations.

  • Required preliminary courses

    Approved laboratory course in KJPE1300 General Chemistry, KJFP1400 Organic Chemistry and KJM1500 Physical Chemistry, or corresponding qualifications.

  • Learning outcomes

    The students will develop knowledge about and understanding of how digital tools are used in the engineering professions, and how they influence the society in which these professions are carried out. The students are to gain insight into programming, IT security, and other ethical problems relating to IT. Practical cases and exercises are used to acquire the relevant knowledge.

  • Teaching and learning methods

    No requirements over and above the admission requirements.

  • Course requirements

    Lectures, compulsory exercises and laboratory assignments with reports. Individual work during exercises, group work (2-4 students per group), in connection with laboratory work and report writing.

  • Assessment

    Lectures and work on cases and practical assignments.

  • Permitted exam materials and equipment

    The following coursework is compulsory and must be approved before the student can take the exam:

    Three written project assignments in groups of four to five students. Scope of approx. twenty pages for each assignment.

  • Grading scale

    A supervised three-hour individual written exam.

    None.
