Introduction
This course features weekly lectures (usually in a flipped-classroom style) and lab sessions to provide both theoretical content and hands-on experience. The practical lab sessions and lectures that complement each other: lectures give the theoretical background while the lab sessions give the necessary hands-on experience in putting theory into practice. Students are to supplement the lectures and lab sessions with their own reading.
Compulsory assignments are given throughout the semester, which students may complete in groups. However, most assignments require indivually written report hand-ins.
Required preliminary courses
The following required coursework must be approved before the student can take the exam:
11 assignments that focus on technical work and are documented in reports. The reports must adequately detail the completed work; no length requirements apply.
A minimum of 9 of the 11 assignments must be approved in order to qualify for the exam.
Learning outcomes
Individual written exam, 1.5 hours.
The exam will be a multiple-choice test.
The exam grade can be appealed.
New/postponed exam
In case of failed exam or legal absence, the student may apply for a new or postponed exam. New or postponed exams are offered within a reasonable time span following the regular exam. The student is responsible for registering for a new/postponed exam within the time limits set by OsloMet. Assessment
The subject is mandatory for all candidates in the Information, Library and Archival specialization. The candidates are encouraged to complete the course early in their studies.

No prerequisites.
Grading scale
The subject consists of seminars, lectures and independent studies. The pedagogical approach involves active participation in seminars/lectures, and commenting on presentations from the other students.
Examiners
Participation is mandatory and expected in all lectures and seminars. Only a minor absence can be accepted in certain circumstances after application.
Admission requirements
All examination support material is allowed as long as source reference and quotation technique requirements are applied.
