MEST4313 Research Theory and Method 2 Course description

This course is a continuation of Research Theory and Method 1. It elucidates research methods and philosophy of science perspectives of relevance to the distinctive nature of the aesthetic field. The course emphasises the student analysing, assessing and using theoretical and practical elements in his/her own research process. In the course, the student will prepare a proposal for his/her own research design as a basis for the further work on the master’s thesis.

Teaching methods vary between lectures and student based activities. Students must actively participate in teaching and group work. The master’s programme is based on individual study with participation in groups, lectures and thematic workshops. Emphasis is placed on both theoretical and practical work as forms of study.

Kunnskap

Studenten

· har grundig kunnskap om kvalitative tilnærmingsmåter ved innsamling og bearbeiding av data som for eksempel intervju, case study, etnografi, aksjonsforskning, video-baserte analyser

Ferdigheter

Studenten

· kan anvende kunnskapen om kvalitative metoder i et prosjektarbeid med relevans for barnehagefeltet

· kan planlegge og gjennomføre et mindre empirisk arbeide/prosjekt

Generell kompetanse

Studenten

· kan reflektere over metodologiske og vitenskapsteoretiske problemer

· har forståelse for og kan vurdere etiske problemstillinger knyttet til forskning i barnehagefeltet

Eksamen består av to komponenter:

· skriftlig prosjektrapport i gruppe (ca. 15-20 sider) som leveres i tre eksemplarer

· muntlig presentasjon i gruppe

Delene vurderes samlet.

Vurderingskriterier

For å oppnå karakteren bestått må studenten:

· ha avgrenset og presisert sin tolkning av oppgaven

· ha dokumentert fagkunnskap om emnet gjennom å ta utgangspunkt i pensumlitteratur, evt. annen relevant teori

· vist evne til sjølstendig faglig refleksjon

· vist at hun/han har tilegnet seg kunnskap om bruk av referanser i en vitenskapelig tekst

Ny/utsatt eksamen

Ved stryk eller gyldig forfall til eksamen kan studentene gå opp til ny/utsatt eksamen neste studieår/semester i den/de delen(e) kandidaten ikke består. Prøven arrangeres som ved ordinær eksamen. Ny/utsatt prøve kan gjennomføres individuelt dersom ny gruppe ikke kan dannes. Studenten er selv ansvarlig for å melde seg opp til ny/utsatt eksamen innen fristen.
