Introduction
Language of instruction: Norwegian
The practical training in a dental technology enterprise should primarily contribute to the students developing their skills in relation to production procedures and theoretical principles in a real-life working situation. Dialogue about different solutions and forms of production are key. The student will participate as much as possible in the professional community and the day-to-day production of tooth replacements.
Clinical practical training focuses on the complexity of clinical dental treatment, the diversity of patients and on safeguarding their needs and right. Emphasis is placed on professional communication and a responsible cooperation between dental health professionals.
Breakdown of credits: Theory 5 credits and skills training 25 credits.

Content
Det forventes at studentene er aktive i egne læringsprosesser mellom samlingene. Undervisningen veksler mellom forelesninger og praktisk arbeid som blant annet tar utgangspunkt i materialer, lyd, stemme, bevegelse og rom. Kommunikasjon med andre studenter og lærere mellom samlingene foregår via universitetets digitale læringsplattform eller andre egnede medier.

After completing the course, the student should have the following learning outcomes defined in terms of knowledge, skills and general competence:
Knowledge
The student
- can, based on knowledge about the oral cavity, material science and evidence-based practice choose suitable materials, production methods/technology and design for relevant work assignments in the chosen specialisation, fixed prosthetics (A)
- can explain relevant design and laboratory technology adaptations to achieve good function and acceptable aesthetics in a given case
- can describe the different roles and responsibilities of the dental healthcare professions and the importance of interdisciplinary cooperation in the best interest of the patient in line with relevant legislation and professional ethical guidelines
- is familiar with principles for supervision and professional healthcare communication and active listening, as well as the importance of congruity in verbal communication
- is familiar with how variations in health competence can affect different patient groups’ ability to perform oral self-care
Skills
The student can
- use specialist terminology in communication, verbally, in writing and digitally when choosing solutions and construction design
- document and critically analyse their own experiences and challenges related to structural design and handling of materials in clinical cases
- produce sub-structures for single crowns and small bridges with good fit and functionality using conventional and digital techniques
- make all-ceramic crowns, facets, inlays and small bridges using conventional and digital techniques, either fully anatomical, with cut-back and/or layering technique with good fit, function and aesthetic results
- fire and layer porcelain on sub-structures in a manner that maintains good functionality, morphology and provides the desired optical properties in a given case
General competence
The student can
- plan their own workday with a suitable division of work processes in a production context
- identify the professional field and respect professional points of view and norms relating to good practice, applicable legislation and professional ethics issues
- make use of supervision and constructive feedback, and show a willingness and ability to participate in goal-oriented cooperation and professional communication with dental health personnel in a professional context
- communicate with patients in connection with prosthetic treatments
Course requirements
The practical training comprises twenty weeks of external supervised practical training and self-study. The student will carry out 16 weeks of practical training/skills training at dental technology enterprises. Clinical observational practice comprises four weeks, taken continuously or spread throughout the semester. Clinical observational practice can take place in the following establishments: public dental clinic, private dental surgery, an orthodontist practice, hospital or with a clinical dental technician.
The student will be given weekly supervision in relation to professional progress and suitability.
Assessment
The following must have been approved in order for the student to receive a final assessment:
- a minimum attendance of 80 % in external practical training in an enterprise and clinical observational practice and compulsory supervision
- individual portfolio in accordance with set criteria that documents self-produced works during the practical training in an enterprise
- individual subject note relating to the clinical observational practice, up to 2,000 words

Grading scale
Emnet Kultur, lek og læring er et teoretisk og praktisk emne, noe som kjennetegner både innhold, arbeidsformer og vurdering. Emnet skal videreutvikle forståelsen av samspillet mellom lek og læring, kunst, kultur og natur og hvordan dette kommer til uttrykk i et mangfoldig samfunn.
Emnet sikter mot å gi en utdypet forståelse for å møte barns undring og utforsking, med fagkunnskap og med kompetanse i å utvikle pedagogiske miljøer for lek og læring. Videre utdyper emnet hvordan både kulturen og naturen er arenaer for allsidige kroppslige, sosiale, emosjonelle og kognitive erfaringer og bærekraftig praksiser. Emnet vektlegger barns mangfoldige lek og læring, og hvordan lekens kreative og rasjonelle sider kan møtes og utvikles gjennom improvisasjon og planlegging. Emnet vil også studere kulturbegrepet i vid forstand, og analysere sammenhenger mellom lek, læring og danning i lys av nyere forskning.
