Introduction
Language of instruction: Norwegian
This course focuses on legislation and health policy guidelines related to public health, empowerment and health-promoting work. Key areas include empowerment as a concept, process and result, as well as learning and coping. Students will work on concepts, theory and models related to public health work and public health science. Collaboration, interprofessional cooperation, and user participation and decision-making support will be highlighted and critically assessed.
Required preliminary courses
The student must have been admitted to the Master’s Degree Programme in Health Sciences.
Learning outcomes
After completing the course, the student should have the following learning outcomes defined in terms of knowledge, skills and general competence:
Knowledge
The student:
- can analyse key academic and health policy guidelines and their consequences for practice
- can analyse the roles and functions of health personnel in the areas of public health, empowerment and health promotion
- can critically assess the meaning of social inequality and the relationship between health, power and society
Skills
The student:
- can analyse the meaning of the principles of empowerment thinking (the user as the expert on him/herself, participation and the redistribution of power)
General competence
The student:
- can analyse academic and ethical problems in the areas of public health, empowerment and health-promoting work
Teaching and learning methods
The course overlaps 100% with MASYK/D4000 Clinical Research and Professional Development.

Assessment
Individual home examination over two weeks based on a set question. Scope: 2,500 words (+/- 10%)
Permitted exam materials and equipment
Emnet viser hvordan ulike bedriftsøkonomiske beslutningsproblemer formuleres og løses. Studenten øves opp i evne til systematisk, kvantitativ analyse. Hovedvekten skal legges på formulering og økonomisk fortolkning og bruk av resultater. Gjennom emnet erverver studenten seg det nødvendige analyseverktøyet og anvender dette på en rekke problemstillinger en siden vil støte på i praksis.

Examiners
At least 20% of the examination papers will be assessed by an external examiner together with an internal examiner. The remaining papers will be assessed by two internal examiners. The external examiner’s assessment should benefit all students.
