Introduction
On completion of the course, the students will have gained an understanding of the electrical properties of linear circuits and how basic circuits can be designed based on specifications. The course also gives a basic introduction to electromagnetics and confers 3 credits in physics.

No requirements over and above the admission requirements.
Learning outcomes
After completing the course, the student is expected to have achieved the following learning outcomes defined in terms of knowledge, skills and general competence:
Knowledge
The student is capable of:
- solving basic dc and ac circuits
- have a good knowledge of the physical laws that apply to electrical circuits
- can account for electric and magnetic fields
- have a good knowledge of methods for analyzing DC circuits
- analysing transient states in RL and RC circuits
- have knowledge of three-phase systems
Skills
The student is capable of:
- using instruments such as a voltmeter, ammeter and oscilloscope
- designing circuits based on diagrams and troubleshooting hardware if necessary
- explaining the function(s) of a circuit
- using manufacturer manuals and data sheets
General competence
The student is capable of:
- analysing a problem and specifying a solution method
- discussing and justifying own choices and priorities in relation to electric circuits
- explaining the historical development of the field of electricity
Teaching and learning methods
Theory lectures, laboratory work.
Course requirements
The following coursework is compulsory and must be approved before the student can sit the exam:
- Four lab exercises with presence
Report must be approved at the end of each excersise before leaving the laboratory.
Assessment
Exam autumn 2021 due to Covid-19 (both ordinary and new postponed exam):
3,5 hours digtial home examination
The exam result can be appealed.

Autumn 2021: All aids permitted execpt communication with others.

A handheld calculator that cannot be used for wireless communication or to perform symbolic calculations. If the calculator’s internal memory can store data, the memory must be deleted before the exam. Random checks may be carried out.
