Introduction
The course deals with blood sample analysis using chemical, enzymatic and immunological methods to detect biochemical changes in the body. Emphasis is placed on laboratory skills and knowledge of methods, measurement principles and the relevance and medical significance of different laboratory investigations. Knowledge of medical biochemistry and laboratory analysis is important, since test results are used in the diagnosis and treatment of disease in patients.
Required preliminary courses
- Passed first year or equivalent of the Bachelor’s Programme in Biomedical Laboratory Sciences, or;
- Admitted to the Complementary Education in Biomedical Laboratory Science;

The course consists of the following subject areas, specified below as the number of credits:
- Medical Biochemistry, 10 credits

Course requirements
In order to be permitted to take the exam, the following must have been approved:;
- a minimum of 90 per cent attendance in laboratory teaching
Assessment
Supervised individual written exam, 3 hours
Permitted exam materials and equipment
Calculator.

Grade scale A-F
Examiners
All exam papers are assessed by two examiners. A minimum of twenty per cent of the exam papers will be assessed by an external examiner. The external examiner’s assessment shall benefit all students.
