Course history

Introduction

Language of instruction: Norwegian: Autumn and English: Spring (Norwegian if no English-speaking students have registered for the course).

This course deals with main areas of quality of life research relating to children, young people and adults. This forms the basis for using quality of life instruments or qualitative methods when assessing and documenting what is important to a person having a good life, and when evaluating the effect of implemented measures. The topics included in the course are: theoretical models that form the basis for the quality of life concept, contextual and cultural frameworks, the quality of life concept at group, individual and societal levels, and different methodological approaches to evaluating quality of life, both in the health and social care services and in research, what promotes and diminishes quality of life and the relationship between quality of life and health in light of a sustainable society.

Required preliminary courses

The student must have been admitted to the Master’s Programme in Health Sciences.

Teaching and learning methods

The course will use varied, student-active work methods. The methods used are lectures, group work, role play and exercises, and self-study.

Course requirements

For å kunne framstille seg til eksamen må studenten ha følgende godkjente obligatoriske aktiviteter:

  • Obligatorisk aktivitet: Fem gruppeoppgaver i kommunikasjon med innlevering av et tilhørende refleksjonsnotat med et omfang på inntil 2 sider hver. Maksimum gruppestørrelse er fem personer. Det kreves minst 80 prosent tilstedeværelse med aktiv deltagelse i gruppene. Ved manglende tilstedeværelse utover 20 prosent må det leveres et alternativt arbeidskrav. Manglende tilstedeværelse utover 40 prosent medfører tap av eksamensrett.

Formålet med den obligatoriske aktiviteten er at studentene skal få trening i å omsette teori til praksis i kommunikasjon.

Obligatorisk aktivitet må være gjennomført og godkjent innen fastlagt frist for at studenten skal kunne framstille seg til eksamen

Assessment

Through work with the literature and the tasks, the student should learn to initiate and perform critical learning processes for adult and young students within the field of digital citizenship. 

Permitted exam materials and equipment

The aim of this course is to give the students the tools to participate and critically evaluate in and teach about digital democratic processes in society 

 

A student who has completed his or her qualification has the following learning outcomes defined in terms of knowledge, skills and general competence:

  • Understands how to engage with digital citizenship in a digitalised society

Grading scale

The course is designed for students to be physically present, but may also be adapted to students who participate online. Synchronous participation is recommended. No video recordings of the teaching and learning sessions are made. Work methods are student-active and collaborative. The students are expected to take active part in discussions and supposed to read the course literature on their own. The course work requirements will ensure that the student acquires sufficient theoretical knowledge to participate in oral and internet-based discussions during the semester.  The course may be taught in English if English speaking students attend.

Grade scale A-F.

All answers are assessed by one examiner.

An external examiner is used regularly, at a minimum of every third completion of the course. When selecting answers for external evaluation, a minimum of 10 percent of the answers shall be included, with no fewer than 5 answers. The external examiner’s assessment of the selected answers shall benefit all students.
