After completing the course, the student should have the following overall learning outcomes defined in terms of knowledge, skills and general competence:
Knowledge
The student has
- obtained an integrated understanding of fundamental drivers of value, and valuation techniques
- implemented and understood the use of this knowledge in practical settings

- able to apply the main valuation techniques to real companies, to form an informed opinion as to the fair value of a company
- able to take complex financial information and distill them into relevant information for the valuation process
- able to present the findings of their analysis verbally and in written and presentation of the fair value of a corporation or project towards their peers

- has completed demanding case work and presentations as constructive members of a student group
- can resolve discrepancies and argue why they are good solutions to the problem
Learning outcomes
The course is taught in plenary lectures, and through students working on different assignments.
The teaching is coordinated with ØABED3400.
Teaching and learning methods
The following coursework requirements must have been approved in order for the student to take the exam:
- Coursework: Three written assignments must be handed in by set deadlines during the term. Students work individually or in groups of up to four members. The scope of the assignment (number of pages) varies depending on the nature of the assignment. The expected number of pages is less than 20 in total for the three assignments.
The purpose of the work requirement is for the students to achieve a deeper understanding of the syllabus and to develop skills in assessing management control systems.
All required coursework must be completed and approved by the given deadline in order for the student to take the exam. If one or more coursework requirements have not been approved, the student will be given one opportunity to submit an improved version by the given deadline.
Course requirements
The exam in the course consists of two parts:
1) A portfolio containing a reworked 10-page (excluding appendices) Sell-side report based on the three written assignments carried out in groups during the coursework requirements. The assignments must be delivered in revised form.
Font and font size: Arial / Calibri / Verdana 12 points. Line spacing 1,5.
2) An oral exam carried out in groups (10 minutes).
The final grade will be based on two equally weighted parts.
All parts of the exam must be passed in order to pass the course.
Assessment
Lectures and workshops solving cases in groups. Emphasis is placed on the use of computer tools in teaching.
Permitted exam materials and equipment
The following coursework requirement must have been approved for the student to take the exam:
- Coursework 1: 5 individual assignments. The student must pass at least 4 out of 5 assignments to take the exam. Each assignment consists of answering questions from a business case, and may also include quiz and contribution to discussion on the course website. Expected time to complete each assignment is 5 hours. Each assignment must be completed and approved by the given deadline.
The purpose of the coursework requirement is for the students to apply and evaluate analysis methods taught in the module.
All required coursework must be completed and approved for the student to take the exam. If the coursework requirement is not approved, the student is given one opportunity to submit a new coursework requirement within a specified deadline.
Grading scale
The exam in the course is a course paper written in groups of max 5 students. The assignment has a scope of 10-15 pages, excluding the cover page and table of contents. Font and font size: Arial / Calibri / Verdana 12 points. Line spacing: 1.5.
Examiners
All aids are permitted, as long as the rules for source referencing are complied with.
