Repair your clothes in Fixer Space

In the open workshop on the ground floor of P52 you can sew, embroider and repair your own clothes. You can use the workshop anytime during OsloMet's opening hours.

"It doesn’t hurt to try to fix your clothes at Fixer Space. Then you get a little challenge for yourself, and it’s very rewarding to put your own stamp on clothes", says Anne Dalen Gåsdal.

She is a master’s student in aesthetic studies, majoring in fashion and society, and was involved in setting up Fixer Space. Now she wants to contribute with sewing courses for beginners.

Equipment to borrow

You don’t need to have a lot of sewing experience to use the workshop. But it is an advantage to have some prior knowledge before using one of the two sewing machines there.

One sewing machine is well suited for coarser fabrics such as denim, while the other is for more general use. You will also find embroidery floss, threads, needles, darning needles, patches, buttons, paper scissors, fabric scissors and other repair equipment. You must bring your own textiles.

In the workshop you will also find a clothes rack where you can change clothes or leave garments you no longer need.

Learn from mistakes

Anne recommends that beginners test on a sample patch first, or sew on a garment that you are not afraid to ruin.

"You have to make mistakes to learn. And if you sew wrong, we have repairmen there", she says.

She hopes that students will use Fixer Space to extend the life of their clothes by repairing them or changing the fit.

"This is basically easy, but you need to have equipment. In Fixer Space, you get what you need wherever you are during the day", says Anne.
