OsloMet marks Oslo Pride

In June, Oslo Pride will take place. OsloMet will mark it in different ways.

In a time when values such as equality, inclusion and diversity are under pressure, we are committed to our core value "Inclusive": OsloMet will incite to equality and diversity. True to tradition, OsloMet marks Pride.

The rainbow flag

In June, the rainbow flag will be visible at the Pilestredet and Kjeller campuses – a symbol of support for queer love and diversity.

Events and celebrations

During the Pride month of June, the libraries at Kjeller, P35, P48 and P32 will set up book exhibitions. Take the chance to borrow some queer summer reading! You can also make Pride bracelets at the library at Kjeller and in P48.

Pride themed lunchtime event

The queer Kjartan Slettemark became Norway's most controversial artist and constantly took on new identities, including as a poodle and the American president.

On Thursday, 22 May, Anders Gjesvik, associate professor at the Department of Journalism and Media Studies, spoke about the artist in the library in P48. Those attending could also take home a free Pride t-shirt during this event.

OsloMet at Pride House

On Sunday, 22 June (Legenes hus, Christiania Torv in Oslo), two OsloMet employees will present their research:

  • Associate professor Anders Gjesvik at the Department of Journalism and Media Studies has written a biography of the artist Kjartan Slettemark. It is about the boy who grew up on a small farm in Western Norway and became one of the most important avant-garde artists in Norway and Sweden. There were no gay role models, but Kjartan Slettemark made the search for an identity a lifelong project both as a person and an artist. He took on the roles of American president, poodle and plastic baker. The session is at 12:30–13:30.
  • Associate Professor Hans Wiggo Kristiansen at the Department of Social Work, Child Welfare and Social Policy leads and contributes to the session "Young and queer under German occupation 1940–1945" (in Norwegian). The other two contributors are senior librarian and historian Runar Jordåen at Skeivt Arkiv in Bergen and Camilla Hedvig Maartmann, senior curator at the Grini Museum. The session takes place at 14:00–15:00.
