Extended submission
If there is a need for deferred submission beyond the standard time, you must apply for an extension of the right to study and continuation of the supervision relationship within two weeks before the submission deadline. You send the application to the study administration at the faculty. You must justify your application and attach a progress plan. You write the progress plan in collaboration with your supervisor. The progress plan should contain deadlines for further work on the master's thesis. You must also write how many supervision hours you have to your credit. If you apply for a postponement due to illness, attach a medical certificate
Applications for deferred submission are approved by the study administration in collaboration with the director of studies. The right to study is normally retained for up to one year in addition to the standard time cf. Regulations for studies and examinations at OsloMet § 4-2 (2). If the application for deferred submission is granted, supervision can be continued within the framework of the original supervision hours in agreement with the supervisor.
Assessment
According to the current Regulations on studies and examinations at OsloMet - metropolitan university (Lovdata.no), the Master's thesis must be censored within six weeks of submission.
The grade for the written work is published on the student web by the set deadline. On master's studies with an oral hearing, a provisional grade is given for the written work. The final grade is set after the oral has been completed.
According to the current Regulations on studies and examinations, if you are unlucky and get a grade F, you can only submit a new or revised master's thesis once. It is not possible to have a new master's thesis assessed in the same study program if you have previously had a master's thesis assessed with a passing result.
Request an explanation for a grade – Appeal against the determination of a grade
In accordance with the current Regulations on studies and examinations at OsloMet - Storbyuniversitetet (ch. 7 § 3 - Lovdata.no), the student has the right to receive a justification for grading in accordance with the Act on Universities and Colleges § 5-3. Students can appeal against the grade set for the written part of the examination in accordance with the Act relating to Universities and University Colleges.
Furthermore, the Universities and Colleges Act states that assessment of oral performance cannot be appealed. (cf. § 5-3, point 5.)
Oral Exam
- Not all master's programs require an oral hearing. Look in the program plan for your master’s program.
- The written thesis must be awarded a grade of A-E (preliminary grade) in order for a student to take the oral examination.
- It is expected that the candidate can problematise and discuss his thesis orally, not least in light of the choice of literature.
- It is calculated approx. One hour per candidate.
- The oral hearing can lead to a change of grade on the master's thesis.
- If the student receives the grade F (failed) after the oral exam, she/he must present herself again for both the written and the oral exam parts.
