About the study place

Western University ranks as one of Canada’s top research universities. From fundamental to applied knowledge, Western discoveries benefit economic, social, health and cultural development in Canada and around the world. It is a globally recognized destination for academic excellence and leadership development achieved through learning and research. Its study programmes cover a range of subject fields.

Western is considered one of Canada’s most beautiful campuses with Gothic-style buildings mixed with modern, LEED-certified structures that provide an idyllic environment.

The university is located in London, a safe, vibrant and welcoming community of more than 383,000 people serving as a regional hub for southwestern Ontario.

Since 1878, the fortunes of Western University and the City of London have been indelibly linked and the university's activities are an integral part of the London community.

Big enough for the ‘big city’ experience, but still far more affordable in comparison with many other Canadian cities, London offers a variety of activities and there is always something going on. It has been designated UNESCO City of Music recently and there are all kinds of concerts to choose from. There are also a number of festivals such as the Snowfest, Sunfest, Rock the Park, London Film Festival and World Beat and Jazz weekends. If you are interested in sports either as spectator or as participant, there is something here for you, too.

London is known as the Forest City because of its more 200 parks. They range from major urban city-wide parks to more intimate neighbourhood green spaces with spectacular colours in the autumn. There is an extensive trail system that runs along the Thames River, right onto Western’s campus, for walking, running, biking or inline skating. In the winter you can go skiing on Boler Mountain or skating on local outdoor ice rinks.

Western appeals to students with a broad world view, those seeking to study, engage with and eventually lead in the global community. Students from more than 100 countries share in classroom experiences that broaden personal perspectives and Western prides itself on challenging the best and brightest faculty, staff and students to commit to the highest global standards.
