Introduction
In this course, the students will acquire knowledge and an in-depth understanding of the interaction between society, family and the individual based on different theoretical perspectives. Some of the topics presented will be various useful perspectives on how to approach families, including understanding the family as system and/or as a collection of individuals with individual rights. The concept of family will be analysed as situated in time and space, i.e. normative knowledge about families will be viewed in a historical and cultural context.

Course requirements
None.
Assessment
Individual home exam consisting of 10 pages (10 +/- 10 %) over seven days on a given topic.
Grading scale
A grade scale with grades from A to E for pass and F for fail is used.
Examiners
One internal and one external examiner are used. External examiners are used in cases of doubt about whether a pass grade should be awarded and for a sample of approx. 25 % of the answer papers. The committee will form the basis for the grading of all the exam papers.
