Introduction
The aim of this course is to provide an overview of the transition of migrants from arrival to work and capacity building through education. The course critically takes up the issue of the definition, evaluation and measurement of labor integration of immigrants, including an intersectional perspective. Other themes are the operation and function of public integration programmes, the study of discrimination, competence about diversity and the framework for employee protection. Social dumping and discretionary inequalities in work and capacity building will be covered.

Learning outcomes
After completing the course, the student should have the following overall learning outcomes defined in terms of knowledge, skills and general competence:
Have an understanding of the meaning of work life and education for integration of migrants in Norway. Have an understanding of inclusion and exclusion mechanisms in Norway-s labour markets and education systems.
Knowledge
The student has knowledge of
how work life functions in connection with various migrant groups
discrimination and how various types of discrimination can be overcome
the Introduction Programme and other measures for increasing integration of migrants into work life
work possibilities for migrants from the EEA-area
vulnerability tied to unemployment for migrant groups
the risk of marginalization for those on the periphery of work life
the intersectional effects of gender, class and ethnicity
alternative approaches for evaluating integration measures
Skills
The student is able to

Teaching and learning methods
The course is based on lectures, class exercises, homework assignments and literature. Students are expected to actively participate in the course meetings, with an emphasis on dialogue.

Assessment
The exam in the course is a home exam over a period of 3 days/72 hours

Permitted exam materials and equipment
All aids are permitted, as long as the rules for source referencing are complied with.
Grading scale
Grade scale A to F.
Examiners
The exam papers are assessed by one internal and one external examiner. At least 25% of the exam papers will be assessed by two examiners. The grades awarded for the papers assessed by two examiners form the basis for determining the level for all the exam papers.
