The film, by Ewan Wadell, is brand new – this will be the Norwegian premiere!
"The Longer You Bleed" follows a group of young Ukrainians in exile in Berlin as they navigate the psychological strain of witnessing war through their smartphones.
The director says: "I found myself between two worlds: one where my Ukrainian girlfriend and her friends were bombarded daily with images of war, and another where people remained untouched and scrolled past the suffering of strangers. Because I couldn't find a channel that connected these realities, I made this film".
In a time when global conflict is increasingly shown on screens, "The Longer You Bleed" explores the emotional side of the matter: how it is easy to become distanced and exhausted from compassion as a result of constant exposure to traumatic images.
Discussion after the film with film critic Jan Storø and Ukrainian researcher Oleksandra Deineko, who is employed at OsloMet.
The film lasts 1 hour and 13 minutes. The discussion lasts about 20–30 minutes.
