About the study place

Complutense University of Madrid is centrally located in Madrid, with its main campus in the Moncloa area.

Madrid is the capital of Spain and the country’s largest city, centrally located and providing a convenient base for travelling to other parts of Spain. The city has a rich cultural scene, with well‑known museums such as the Prado and Reina Sofía, numerous theatres, concerts and an active student life. Madrid is also home to the large El Retiro Park, which is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. To the north of the city, and accessible by public transport, lies the Sierra de Guadarrama mountain range and national park. The area features dense forests, distinctive granite formations and mountains rising to 2,430 metres above sea level. Summers are hot and dry, while winters are cool but often sunny.

Complutense is one of Europe’s oldest universities, with roots dating back to the 15th century, and is today one of the largest universities in Spain. The university offers a wide range of disciplines and is particularly well known for the humanities, social sciences, law, medicine, psychology and teacher education. UCM combines long academic traditions with active research and a large international student community.
