After completing this course, the student has the following learning outcomes, defined as knowledge, skills and general competence:

Knowledge

The student can:

• give an account of position, speed, acceleration, angular velocity and angular acceleration
• explain the content of Newton's laws and the limitations of the laws
• explain what the mass center represents and why the mass center is important
• explain the conditions for static equilibrium
• explain what moment of inertia is and what role it plays in rotational motion

Skills

The student can:

• identify forces and calculate torques
• apply Newton's 2nd law and the spin rate to specific physical problems
• describe movement mathematically, including using suitable software
• solve equilibrium problems for rigid bodies

General competence

The student can:

• reflect on different solution strategies for a specific physical problem
• evaluate and interpret results from analytical and numerical solutions of a physical problem
• assess the quality of one's own and others' work
• communicate professionally, correctly and precisely

Lectures and exercises.

In the lectures, the students participate in problem solving, discussions and collaboration, in addition to subject material being presented.

Students are also offered fellow-student assessment in the lectures. Here, students will evaluate each other's work and provide learning-promoting feedback.

The content of the exercises includes exercises in problem solving, individually or in collaboration with others. The subject teacher or student assistant(s) is present and provides help and guidance.

The following coursework is compulsory and must be approved before the student can sit the exam:

• 5 of 6 approved exercise submissions, individually completed, limited to approx. two pages per submission

The purpose of the required coursework is to give students a basis for the written exam.

Individual written exam under invigilation of 3 hours.

The exam results can be appealed.

In the event of a new and postponed examination, the oral examination form can be used. If the oral examination is used for a new and postponed examination, the examination result cannot be appealed.

A handheld calculator that cannot be used for wireless communication. If the calculator’s internal memory can store data, the memory must be deleted before the exam. Random checks may be carried out.

Graded scale A-F.

An internal examiner for each exam. External examiner is used regularly.
