  • Introduction

    The course covers basic natural sciences knowledge. The purpose of the course is for students to acquire knowledge of the structure (anatomy) and function (physiology) of the normal human body, and of biochemical processes that affect the normal body. The final assessment in the course is in the form of a national exam based on common, national learning outcome descriptions.

    After completing the course, the student is expected to have achieved the following learning outcomes defined in terms of knowledge, skills and competence:

    Knowledge

    The student is capable of

    • naming anatomical structures and organs in the human body
    • describing where organs are located in relation to each other
    • describing anatomical structure in terms of
      • macroanatomical: organs and organ systems
      • microanatomical: cells and tissues
    • describing the function of different organs and organ systems in the body
    • describing normal physiology in the various organs and organ systems
    • describing regulation mechanisms and homoeostasis in a healthy body

    Skills

    The student

    • is capable of disseminating basic knowledge of human anatomy and organ systems and of physiological and biochemical processes

    Competence

    The student

    • recognises the importance of knowledge of the topic for practising professional nursing

  • Teaching and learning methods

    Lectures, group work, written assignments, supervision, multiple choice and self-study.

  • Course requirements

    The following required coursework must be approved before the student can take the exam:

    • 80% attendance at seminars
    • 60% correct digital multiple choice assignments
  • Assessment

    Supervised individual written exam, 4 hours.

    Ordinary exam: National examination body (two examiners). Resits/rescheduled exams: Two examiners.
