Knowledge

The candidate is in the forefront of knowledge in informatric analysis regarding

  • Theories and methods for quantitative studies of academic communication and productivity: the key academic communication channels and academic dissemination in a digital era
  • Key informatric areas and concepts
  • Publication and citation, diacronic and syncronic impact factors and half life for research in domains. Web of science and other citation indexes.
  • Research evaluation key indicators including, webometric's role ' Crown Indicators, publication point indicators, combination indexes such as H-index, Brute Force and Cumulated Publication Point Index.

Skills

The candidate is able to

  • Understand and evaluate key hypotheses, theories and methods in informatric's main areas (bibliometrics, scientometrics and webometrics)
  • Reflect, evaluate and chose analytical methods for the evaluation of research including publications points og link-analyses for selected research units.
  • Analyse and characterise academic publication channels and bibliometric 'laws'.

Teaching and learning methods

The subject is organised as a seminar with both lectures and demonstrations and involves two two-day meetings. The subject provides a running consideration of research projects presented by the candidates and experienced researchers. Projects are evaluated in accordance with fundamental professional questions and current international research in the academic area.

Assessment

The candidates shall write an essay of approximately 10 pages. The essay shall be presented and discussed in one of the meetings. The essay shall be handed in within at least 2 months after the subject is concluded.

Admission requirements

Målgruppen for emnet er kandidater ved ph.d.-programmet i bibliotek- og informasjons­vitenskap ved Høgskolen i Oslo og Akershus, samt andre som ønsker å kvalifi­sere seg til forskning innen feltet, undervisningsstillinger ved universiteter og høgskoler og andre typer stillinger som stiller høye krav til vitenskapelig kompetanse.

Emnet tilbys primært ph.d.-kandidater. Forutsatt ledig plass kan også andre med fullført hoved­fag, mastergrad (120 studiepoeng) eller tilsvarende innen bibliotek- og informasjonsvitenskap, eller tilsvarende grad innen fag som informatikk, mediefag, dokumentasjons­vitenskap, kulturfag eller litteratursosiologi, gis opptak til enkeltemner.

Søkere til enkeltemner må sende inn et sammendrag på om lag én side med informasjon om eget ph.d.-prosjekt eller annet prosjekt/interesseområde, med beskrivelse av tema, metode, teoretisk innfallsvinkel, samt hvorfor dette emnet anses som relevant for eget prosjekt.
