Innledning

Basic economic knowledge is pivotal for journalists reporting and understanding of contemporary societies. In this course, students will learn basic economics, statistics and accounting in order to do investigative journalism on economic issues and finance. Using companies as cases, students will learn to reflect critically on economics and analyse financial statements.

Knowledge

The student has basic knowledge of

  • the role of economics in contemporary societies
  • the accessibility of economic and financial information in both public and private sector
  • basic accounting and economics

Skills

The student has a basic understanding of how to:

  • identify newsworthy information in budgets and financial statements
  • find and access sources of economic and financial information

General competence

The student

  • can critically reflect upon the role of investigative journalism for public understandings of economic and financial mechanisms

Arbeids- og undervisningsformer

The course is organized in gatherings of intensive tuition, with lectures, workshops, group presentations and discussions.

Digital competence is a key factor in ensuring the employability of candidates in all professions vital to our society. This course will provide a fundamental understanding of our digital world. It gives an overview of how technology affects our lives and the way we work, as well as our social structures, work patterns and individual preferences contributing to shaping technology. Social media, digital governance, and eHealth are all examples of how technology has profoundly changed our everyday lives in the last few decades. An understanding of the benefits and limitations of technology is vital in any profession, regardless of field or speciality. In this course, students will acquire the basic knowledge required to harness the potential of technology and recognise its limitations and potentially harmful consequences on work and society. They will learn to identify the opportunities to use technology to foster inclusion and participation in an increasingly diverse and multicultural society. They will practice communicating orally the concepts they acquire in a structured manner.

After completing this course the student should have the following learning outcome:

Knowledge

On successful completion of this course the student understands:

  • basic terms and concepts related to digital technology and society
  • the role of technological innovation with regards to consumption, economic growth and sustainable development
  • the democratic principles behind inclusion and a universally designed society
  • the basic ideas behind of algorithms, and how their use may constrain or enable work processes and other aspects of everyday life

Skills

On successful completion of this course the student can:

  • use basic terms and concepts from the curriculum to discuss problems arising at the intersect of technology and society.
  • collaborate on problem-solving and complete self-directed student activities in groups
  • evaluate and discuss technological and societal aspects of a case in a specific domain
  • describe and discuss ethical challenges at the intersection of technology and society, including issues of integration and participation
  • identify, respond to and limit the negative impact of unethical and harmful online behaviour

General Competence

On successful completion of this course the student can:

  • be a valuable contributor to the design, planning and implementation of new technology
  • be a positive agent of change in their own profession and field of study with regards to leveraging the potential of technology

Hjelpemidler ved eksamen

Masterstudiet i økonomi og administrasjon er et toårig fulltidsstudium som kvalifiserer til å utføre økonomiske og administrative oppgaver og utredningsarbeid på høyt nivå i næringsliv og offentlig forvaltning. En stor del av kandidatene fra masterstudiet i økonomi og administrasjon går inn i ledende stillinger eller stillinger med personalansvar. Studiet kvalifiserer også til doktorgradsstudier og forskerkarriere.

Det tilbys fire studieretninger:

  • Regnskap og revisjon – MRR (separat opptak)
  • Finansiell økonomi
  • Strategi, organisasjon og ledelse
  • Økonomisk analyse

Etter fullført studium får studenten tildelt mastergrad i økonomi og administrasjon eller mastergrad i regnskap og revisjon. De som får opptak til studieretning Regnskap og revisjon – MRR oppnår mastergrad i regnskap og revisjon. De som tas opp til de tre øvrige studieretningene oppnår mastergrad i økonomi og administrasjon (felles opptak til disse). Kandidatene oppnår samtidig siviløkonomtittelen, også de som tas opp til studieretning regnskap og revisjon - MRR.

Gradens engelske tittel er Master of Science in Business Administration, og Master of Science in Business Administration, specialization Accounting and Auditing for dem som tar MRR.

Mastergrad i regnskap og revisjon kan inngå som grunnlag for å bli godkjent som statsautorisert revisor.

Sensorordning

I flere av studiets emner inngår arbeidskrav som må være godkjent før studenten kan fremstille seg til eksamen i emnet. Dette kan f.eks. være tester, innleveringer, prosjektoppgaver, muntlige presentasjoner og gruppearbeid. Arbeidskravene er med på å støtte opp om emnets læringsutbytte, både ved at studentene blir trenet gjennom selve arbeidet med disse oppgavene og ved at arbeidskravene ofte sørger for at studentene tilegner seg ferdigheter og kunnskaper som ikke blir testet under selve eksamenen. Arbeidskrav og obligatoriske aktiviteter framgår av den enkelte emneplan.
