  • Innledning

    Management control is essential in all organiastions. Lack of appropriate management control systems can result in underperformance, large financial losses, damaged reputation and even organisational failure. This course is an introduction to design and use of management control systems in organisations facing different challenges.

    Language of instruction is English.

    The students should have basic knowledge of strategy, finance, financial accounting, management accounting and organisations.

    After completing the course, the student should have the following overall learning outcomes defined in terms of knowledge, skills and general competence:

    Knowledge

    The student has

    • knowledge of the use of management control systems in organisations
    • an overview of different management control systems
    • insight into the process of designing new control systems and changing old control systems to face different challenges of organisations
    • knowledge of the unintended consequences of management control systems and how to handle these
    • insight into ethical issues of design and use of control systems

    Skills

    The student know how to

    • use critical thinking, discussion and collaboration when working with design and use of management control systems in organisations
    • design appropriate management control systems in smaller organisations

    General knowledge

    The student know how to

    • develop and work with cases
  • Arbeids- og undervisningsformer

    The study methods are lectures, discussions, group work using cases and individual study.

    The teaching is coordinated with ØABED4500.

  • Arbeidskrav og obligatoriske aktiviteter

    The following coursework requirements must have been approved for the student to take the exam:

    • Coursework: There is one course assignment in groups of 2-3 students.

    The coursework must be completed and approved by the given deadline for the student to take the exam. If the coursework requirement has not been approved, the student will be given one opportunity to submit an improved version by a given deadline.

  • Vurdering og eksamen

    The exam in the course is a supervised exam of 4 hours.

    The following aids are permitted:

    • All handwritten and printed materials
    • Calculator (see regulations for the use of calculators in the programme description)

    Grade scale A - F

  • Sensorordning

    The exam papers are assessed by one internal and one external examiner.

    At least 25% of the exam papers will be assessed by two examiners. The grades awarded for the papers assessed by two examiners form the basis for determining the level for all the exam papers.
