Course history

Introduction

Avsluttende vurdering består av to deler:

  • En 72-timers hjemmeeksamen med grunnlag i pensum der studenten besvarer to av fire oppgitte oppgaver. Hver av de to besvarelsene skal ha et omfang på 1500 ord +/- 10 %.
  • Individuell bacheloroppgave (7000 ord +/- 10 %)

Gitt ulike varigheter i hospitering hos vertsorganisasjoner i respektivt Oslo og Genève, vil innleveringsfrist på bacheloroppgaven variere: Studenter i Oslo leverer oppgaven innen gitt frist ved utgangen av vårsemesteret, mens studenter som hospiterer ved UNHCR i Genève leverer sin bacheloroppgave innen gitt frist medio september (i påfølgende semester; vitnemål utstedes etter sensur i oktober).

Samlet karakter

Det gis en samlet karakter basert på karakter på bacheloroppgaven. Begge deler må være bestått for å få samlet karakter for emnet.

Ny/utsatt eksamen

Hver av delene står som selvstendige eksamener; ved gyldig fravær eller ikke bestått eksamen må kun den aktuelle eksamen tas opp igjen. Hjemmeeksamen tas på nytt. Bacheloroppgaven kan omarbeides én gang ved ny eksamen.

Studentens rettigheter og plikter ved ny/utsatt eksamen framgår av forskrift om studier og eksamen ved OsloMet. Studenter er selv ansvarlige for å melde seg opp til eventuell ny/utsatt eksamen.

Learning outcomes

Hjemmeeksamen: Alle oppgaver vurderes av en intern og en ekstern sensor. Ekstern sensor leser et uttrekk av eksamener og samhandler med intern sensor på en slik måte at ekstern sensur kommer alle studenter i gruppen til gode.

Bachelor-/semesteroppgave: Alle oppgaver vurderes av en intern og en ekstern sensor.

Teaching and learning methods

Ved siden av å dele utvalgte teorier med det teoribaserte emnet i sjette semester av bachelorstudiet (UTVB3300 Teorier om utvikling, globalisering og sosial endring), fokuserer dette emnet på de temaer som inngår i emnet UTVB3002 En introduksjon til utviklingsindustrien i femte semester, med ytterligere fordypning:

  • Hovedtrekk i den globale utviklingsindustrien
  • Norsk utviklingspolitikk i historisk og sammenlignende perspektiv
  • Nye tema, aktører, arbeidsmåter og partnerskap
  • Representasjon og selvpresentasjon i utviklingsindustrien

Course requirements

The following must have been approved in order for the student to take part 2 of the examination:

  • presentation based on project-oriented practical training (individual or in groups). Scope of about 30 minutes with an opponent 
  • individual reflection note from practical training. Scope: 700 words (+/- 10%).

Assessment

Combined assessment:

Part 1) Assessed practical training The assessment is based on the learning outcomes for the course, the student's specification of the learning outcomes and the assessment made of the student during the practical training period.

Students’ practical training can only be assessed if their attendance is sufficiently high.

  • The student must attend at least 90% of the scheduled time
  • The student will be allowed to make up for absence of between 10 and 20% by agreement with the practical training supervisor and the supervisor from the university
  • If a student’s absence exceeds 20%, he/she will fail the practical training*
  • The attendance requirement cannot be deviated from due to illness or for other reasons

*If illness prevents the student from attending the practical training so that their absence exceeds the permitted amount, the student is normally required to present a valid medical certificate for all days of absence in excess of 10% of the scheduled time in order for the absence to be deemed valid. The student’s attempt at taking the practical training will then not count.

Part 2) An individual project examination in the form of an in-depth assignment

  • Scope: 5,000 words (+/- 20%)
  • Carried out in the course of the practical training period

Resit examination: If the student is awarded the grade F (fails the written assignment), he/she will be given one (1) opportunity to submit a reworked version.

Permitted exam materials and equipment

Part 1) Not relevant.

Part 2) All aids are permitted, as long as the rules for source referencing are complied with.

Grading scale

The course description is approved 22.05.12 by the Dean on behalf of the Academic Affairs Committee, Faculty of Education and International Studies and revised 23.05.13. Minor change approved 03.06.2016. Latest revision approved by the Academic Affairs Committee 11.05.17.

The Faculty of Education and International Studies at Oslo and Akershus University College (HiOA) offers interdisciplinary courses in Development Studies and North-South relations, leading to a Bachelor's degree of 180 ECTS credits in Development Studies. This course on 'Education and Religion in Development' is a course at the intermediate level and gives 10 ECTS credits.

The course will be taught in English or Norwegian, depending on needs according to the participants' language abilities. The exam papers can be written in English, Norwegian, Swedish or Danish.

Examiners

Part 1) The practical training supervisor and supervisor from the university. Pursuant to the Act relating to Universities and University Colleges, the university is responsible for the final assessment of the student.

Part 2) All examination papers are assessed by two examiners. A minimum of 20% of the examination papers will be assessed by an external examiner. The external examiner’s assessment should benefit all students.

The course overlaps 100% with VPSYPRA10, VPSYDPRA10, VSPYDPRA11, MAPSDPRA10 and MAPSDPRA11.
