Introduction
The Bachelor’s Programme in Social Education concludes with a piece of independent documentation work in the form of a bachelor’s thesis. Work on the bachelor’s thesis is carried out as full-time work over a period of nine weeks.
A pass in the drug calculation test is required before the bachelor’s thesis can be submitted.

A pass in the following courses to start the course: VERN1110/VERND1110, VERN1210/VERND1210, VERN1310/VERND1310, VERN1400/VERND1400, VEPRA10/VEPRAD10, VERN1500/VERND1500, VERN2110/VERND2110, VERN2400/VERND2400, VEPRA20/VEPRAD20, VERN2320/VERND2320 VERNLEG1/ VERNLEGD1, VEPRA30/VEPRAD30
Approved required coursework to start the course: VERN3100/VERND3100, VERN3200/VERND3200 and VEPRA40/VEPRAD40.
A pass in the following courses to deliver the bachelor’s thesis for evaluation: VERN3100/VERND3100 and VEPRA40/VEPRAD40.
Learning outcomes
After completing the course, the student is expected to have achieved the following learning outcomes defined in terms of knowledge, skills and competence:
Knowledge
The student has knowledge of
- the general requirements that apply to the wording of research questions
- relevant sources for literature searches
- various data collection and processing methods as well as various forms of reporting in line with ethical requirements and guidelines
Skills
The student is capable of
- conducting different types of literature searches
- formulating a research question in accordance with general requirements of the scientific method
- conducting and documenting a project work / care or training
Competence
The student is capable of
- engaging in criticism of the discipline and has insight into research ethical problems
- disseminating and documenting social education work
- exchanging professional opinions and experience and contributing to the development of good practice
Teaching and learning methods
Lectures, supervision, independent work on the thesis
Course requirements
The following required coursework must be approved before a student can receive a final assessment:
- Multiple choice test taken a sufficient number of times to achieve 90% correct answers
- Preparation of an outline for the bachelor’s thesis
Assessment
Individual written bachelor's thesis in accordance with set criteria, up to 8,000 words
On reasoned application and following a special assessment, students can be allowed to write their bachelor’s thesis in pairs. The maximum length of the thesis is still 8,000 words even when two students write a thesis together. Each of the two students must enclose a description of his/her own contribution to the thesis. They are both responsible for the content of the thesis.
Permitted exam materials and equipment
All aids are permitted, as long as the rules for source referencing are complied with.
Grading scale
A grade scale with grades from A to E for pass and F for fail is used
If the bachelor’s thesis is awarded a fail grade, the student has the right to submit a reworked version twice. If the student wishes to improve a passed grade on the bachelor’s thesis, the thesis can be reworked once. Since the thesis is written based on a completed practical training, a new project description is not required for the 2nd and 3rd attempt. Up to 2 hours of supervision is given for grade F. No supervision is given for improving grades.
