Learning outcomes

Computed tomography (CT) provides great opportunities for accurate and detailed diagnosis and has increased in scope in recent years. The specialisation course in CT focuses on protocol development, contemporary trends in parameter selection, post-processing, and image analysis. The course has been developed with a focus on new technology and in-depth study of innovative radiographic imaging methods.

After completing the course, the student should have the following learning outcomes defined in terms of knowledge, skills, and general competence:
Knowledge
The student can
- reflect on how digital technology impacts society and individuals
- explain the significance of technological innovation and development for equitable healthcare services and sustainable development
- explain the general principles for CT optimisation with respect to image quality and radiation dose
- explain the clinical application of the different protocols
- explain optimisation of contrast agent examinations using new technology
- explain principles of user-centered design/approaches to optimize the use of new technology in radiology
- explain advanced image processing methods in CT examinations
- assess and explain advanced CT post-processing techniques to improve image quality and diagnostic information
Skills
- The student canidentify and discuss key sustainability challenges related to digital health technologies
- provide examples of local and global technological differences, both in general and within their own field
General competence
The student can
- critically evaluate digital information flow and understand the algorithms that govern it
- discuss the role of CT in diagnostic imaging today and in the future
- assess the role of innovation within CT

In order to be permitted to sit the exam, the following must have been approved:
- a minimum 80 % attendance at scheduled seminars and skills training

Assessment
Individual written exam under supervision, up to 3 hours.

7 credits overlap with the course BIO2200 Medical Microbiology and Immunological Diagnostics

Grading scale
All answers are assessed by one examiner.
The assessment arrangement is regularly evaluated. An external program examiner/supervisory examiner participates in the evaluation and provides advice for further quality development of the study program.
